There are some great ideas on here, so thanks for those. Having recently moved into my own place (with BF) I'm finding that he gets a lot colder than I do (he's part Cypriot-must be the warm blood) and he likes the heating to be put on. Whereas I grew up in a damp house, so I came with fleece blankets, jumpers and the like to put on. I've just to get him used to the idea. I also tend to wrap a fleece blanket around my lower back in the evenings, as I have sciatica, but it keeps me nice and warm as well.

Quick question...the flat we've moved into doesn't have thermostatic control for the heating, we only get hot water through the immersion heater and we have rattling doors (the joys of renting a flat). None of the internal doors fit their frames properly. Is there anything I can put on the doors so they don't rattle in the wind and let through drafts?

You cna get like a self adhesive foam strip that you put round the edge fo a door which acts a s a mini draught excluder - it can also be used on draughty wiindows too which can be good and then how about a draught excluder underneath it - there are plenty around or you could make your own

or you could put a door curtain but that wouldnt stop the rattling

Hi did anyone see the tonight programme about increasing energy prices and how to save money. Our very own Martin was on it helping a couple save money. To be honest, only caught the last 10 mins of the programme, where there was a woman talking about how much she had saved with her £20,000 solar panel roof - nice if you've got the money. I'm really worried about these potential increases, do people really think they are going to happen?

Missed the program. Dont know how these panels work, but do you think that if loads of ppl installed them, it would still push up our prices (as the company is not getting as much money). mmm

I'm sorry --I think I saw somewhere on here talk of a sausage draught excluder for doors, but with some sort of gadget to attach it to the door to save you getting up and moving it all the time...or am I going batty ? (-er) ?

I have just bought a large roll of catering foil to put behind the radiators and am knitting blankets for the kids beds - I will do what I did last year and put a blanket or an old quilt under everyone's bottom sheet - it's surprising how warm and toasty it makes the bed, I am also on the lookout for flanelette sheets this year.
mardatha try heavy duty velcro it works for me.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

someone (cant remember who) suggested putting little eyelets on the draught excluder and then putting those mini hooks into the bottom of the door so you can effectively hang your draught excluder in place and it moves with the door rather than having to move it every 5 minutes

I saw the program and Martin was saying that if you want to avoid potential price increases on gas and electricity, choose a capped rate NOW ( today, tomorrow or by the end of this week!) as even the available capped rates are quickly rising or disappearing. They may be slightly more expensive than the normal rate at the moment, but in the long run could save LOADS of money (or at least that's how I understood it). I can imagine that the telephone lines will be incredibly busy for the next few days so I'm going to try to do mine on-line!
I hope that helps a bit

Have been checking out switching suppliers and have hit a bit of a snag - well at least a snag for me!

I am in a new-build property and apparently, to save costs, the builders brought in an Independent Gas Transporter instead of Transco when putting in the gas pipework. When you switch suppliers, they usually charge a premium if they are NOT dealing with Transco. So, other mse'ers, please check on your meters to find out who your transporter is BEFORE contacting any new suppliers - it may not be quite as simple (or as cheap) to switch!
