My neighbours stolen land that doesnt belong to them !!

Hi all,
Not sure this is the right place to post.. But here goes...
The rear garden of my property, backs onto the rear garden of another property... In the middle is a gap of approx 20 ft.. which runs right along the rear of everyones houses ( 25 of them ) and has for the last 70 years been left to grow wild, as it doesnt belong to me or my neighbours.( are you with me so far...)
On Wednesday, my neighbour hacked down all , the trees, and hedges in the gap, and erected a fence at the bottom of my garden.. The gardener when I questioned him at the time said the land belonged to my neighbour, but ive since found out that it doesnt... ( ive checked with the Land registry)
The hedges and trees provided a lot of privacy, which I have now lost...
My question is.. As this is not their land.. Can I ask them to move the fence back to their own boundry... and what do I do if they refuse... Can I take it down myself..
( im so angry I feel like setting fire to the damn thing... Grrrrrr:mad:  )
Thanks
Mandi

I wouldn't have thought that you would be able to take the fence down if the land does not belong to you, but I don't really know!0
-
Isn't there some rule that you can "claim" unclaimed land by putting a fence up and if no one objects after a certain period of time the land is legally yours?
If that's correct then I presume there is some kind of authority you can complain to.0 -
apparently if you fence off land that nobody owns, after a period of time ( not sure how long), you can claim it as your own! One of my neighbours did this with a field years ago and now has two bungalows on it. perhaps this is your neighbour's plan?0

what to build two bungelows in a few squ feet of land - that would be amazing :P0

very amusing!!! I actually meant that he would try and claim the land.nenya wrote:what to build two bungelows in a few squ feet of land - that would be amazing :P0 -
Just inform your landlord. let him claim his land back http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=2659020&postcount=10

You should have done it first.

(Sorry that wasn't much help
- try the local council and see if they care?) If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Thanks for your speedy replies..:D
If a piece of land is adopted by someone without the consent of the owner or OBJECTIONS from, anyone.. (in this case I would have objected had I known. )and is maintined by that person for 12 years.. Then it legally becomes theirs, and can then be added to the title deeds for thier property
The point is they never asked me, just went ahead and done it.. Had I been asked I would defenately said no to them... ( my blood pressures through the roof at the min!!! )0 -
I think you should be writing to the land registry or your landlord should. First to check the actual situation and secondly to put down a marker that someone is objecting to your neighbour's apparent tresspass / illegal occupation.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.0 -
calm down mandi  its someone else problem all you have to do is inform your landlord, now have a nice cup of tea :Tmandi wrote:Thanks for your speedy replies..:D
