Well there is good news and bad news, the good being our unemployment has now dropped below the 2% mark, bad news is unless you have lived here for 5yrs you cannot get any benifits, tax credits etc and you need a work permit, which until it drops a little more would be impossible to get unless you have been here for more than 2yrs or you come under the classification of essential worker i.e. police, teacher, nurse etc or your job is one there is a shortage of local applicants, even if you have been here 2yrs and are not UK or Irish in origin you can forget it as far as permit renewal goes in hospitality.
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.

As I spend yet another dismal, depressing Monday searching for jobs online - jobs that, I expect, and just like the other, NEVER elicit a reply - I am just wondering if there are ANY areas of employment now where jobs are growing? I mean, should I stop applying for admin work (VERY difficult to come by if you are not a blonde dolly bird with nice legs!) and widen my goals to, say, hotel work.? Well, do you know something - I HAVE applied for hotel work, namely reception, and even that is very hard to get. Bearing this in mind, I am SICK TO DEATH of these people who say that the hospitality industry is booming. Whereabouts???

Given all that depressing failure, is there ANYWHERE left for me to try now?

    depends where you live
i live in london as an 18 year old who just left school last year i've had work almost every day in the hospitality industry sure it's not well paid but for me it's only temporary and its very flexible so you can do it while looking for other jobs and when you find them quit

if you want names of agencies who give you lots of work send me a PM there are many out there

It is all well and good people coming onto these threads who are in safe jobs and are being critical of people searching for work in the current climate suggesting they do not have the right temperement, skills, aptitude, not trying hard enough etc etc.

These people in the insular world of employment and regular incomes see jobs on websites, newspapers etc and believe they are simply just there for the taking.

To some extent they are, but the reality is that for every job advertised, there will likely be hundreds of applicants for those jobs so for every job filled, there will certainly be scores of despondent and disillusioned unsuccessful applicants - I know - I have been there.

Factor in some of those unemployed who are on the wrong side of forty and the already difficult jobs market becomes desperate for some of these people - and some say don't get a negative attitude!

And as for people posting numerous links for agencies - don't get me going on recruitment agencies..... I appreciate some find them useful, unfortunately all of my contact with such organisations have been negative - sorry - not positive - unfortunately.

^^ How true is that statement!!

I get so sick of these highly paid and very STUPID young women who get these jobs based purely on looks..... And it worries me that the jobs they have can be of far greater importance (and affect other peoples lives) than their intellectual capacity allows.

    Slight rant there :rotfl:

It's not easy out there im afraid and even public sector work (the excess numbers of admin staff) will come under fire soon, with the new govt in power.

I am SO sick of people assuming that you can tell anything at all about a woman based on her appearance beyond what she looks like!

As far as I am aware there is no scientific evidence to suggest a correlation between attractiveness and intelligence. Why not give these women the benefit of the doubt and assume they were hired based on competency. Even if they weren't please reserve your anger for their employers, they're the ones who acted unprofessionally.

I must admit i was surprised
a few years ago i did the same thing and picked up shifts no worries
places in Edinburgh like the botanical gardens, the Dome, royal arts club and the like always used agency staff
so i would expect in 2 months to get at least a nibble
Edinburgh is a tourist city and yet nothing

    Utter tosh

I find those middle aged middle and lower management types who think they are far more skilled and important than they are more infuriating.

    Agree'd

The same applies to graduate workplace virgins, who are thrown into management roles straight out of Uni.... They have an arrogance and disregard for employment law, unrivalled by practically anyone.
Maybe Trugeho needs to consider why it is teenage girls are more employable than him, It isnt because the recruiting managers have a liking of teenage totty in all likiehood and more likely because he doesnt posess the relevant skills, experience or temprement.

I watched a program last year, where two equally qualified accountants sent out CV's to some 30 employment agencies, one was male in his mid 50's and had tons of experience, the other was 20 female and had no experience whatsoever....
ALL the agencies contacted the young woman, NONE of them contacted the man.

Agencies are only interested in what they stereotypically think employers go for.... Young attractive women.... And most jobs now are advertised through agencies.
On this one point, the agencies are correct in assuming that being young and female is what employers want for non-physical (admin) jobs.

Glad someone has topped my record of 'most unhelpful comment' on this thread. But the STUPID category comes to mind too....

Helpful or unhelpful, these are scary time for people working in the care/support sector, unless you are starting from the very bottom and at a very low salary.

And I'm one of the people who are scared, that's were the sarcasm comes from, not being horrible to the OP.....

If you can't find a job then why not start your own business doing something else instead? Companies are bombarded with applicants at the moment and there is a good chance they won't even open all of them and just pick a few from the pile. Unless you are outstanding in your chosen field then you have little chance against the competition. You can either keep at it via probability and keep applying for jobs with the same old cv or you can choose to do something else. What can you do that other applicants can't?

It is almost pointless going for advertised jobs. What you need to find are the companies that are looking for someone that can do what you do but haven't got around to finding that person yet so target local companies with your cv. Always address it to a particular person that is appropriate for recruitment and make sure they understand how you will be an asset to their company.

There is also the option of sticking your cv on all the recruitment sites and just waiting instead. Recruiters that contact you are much more likely to put you forward as they have seen something they needed in your cv that other candidates may not be offering. This way you can't get annoyed about the silence.

Oh and forget getting into another area. If you don't have the experience in a certain area you ain't getting the job. Only apply for things you have more than enough experience of.
