Are There ANY Areas Now Where Jobs Are Growing?

As I spend yet another dismal, depressing Monday searching for jobs online - jobs that, I expect, and just like the other, NEVER elicit a reply - I am just wondering if there are ANY areas of employment now where jobs are growing? I mean, should I stop applying for admin work (VERY difficult to come by if you are not a blonde dolly bird with nice legs!) and widen my goals to, say, hotel work.? Well, do you know something - I HAVE applied for hotel work, namely reception, and even that is very hard to get. Bearing this in mind, I am SICK TO DEATH of these people who say that the hospitality industry is booming. Whereabouts???
Given all that depressing failure, is there ANYWHERE left for me to try now?

Dont expect a reply back, it just makes the whole process that little less painful
The top areas at the moment are :-
Sales
Care
Security
Administration
Customer Service
and a new entry...labouring! (only just started to come back,is it the weather or a upturn in the economy?)
There are quite a few jobs for administration, just look on a website such as my (name of nearest city) jobs and there will be some. The World come on.....0 -
Look on company websites, alot of them arent advertising in the papers or agencies to keep recruitment costs down.0

Care growing? :rotfl:
The public purse is shrinking!
However very low paid jobs, with few rights, mainly on 0hrs contracts are probably growing, there is a shift in this direction.
Cheaper, and gives more control to the client.0 -

Hopefully you are in work - if that is the case then maybe you should not deride someone who is obviously a bit down. If you are out of work, then maybe others may expect a little sympathy.
It is very easy to become negative and disheartened in the current climate and it is true that many can deal with their plight with a positive attitude, however, many find it difficult to deal with rejection and dejection.
As for customer service being one of the current 'top areas' of employment, I would suspect that the 1000 people in that sector whose have just lost their jobs today here in the North East would likely disagree with that assertion.
Furthermore, the sword of Damoclese will shortly be looming over the heads of many public sector workers and the future could hardly be described as rosy.
Keep your head up Truegho and keep plugging away!0 -

No I won't accept that.
The OP asked where there are jobs. I have named areas where I know that they are still a lot of jobs.
I was doing what the original poster asked.
I have not derided anyone.
I have in fact tried to be helpful.
Somebody comes along and says there are no jobs in care. This is wrong, there are, in fact they probably make up most of your local newspapers scanty job page.
What I cannot stand is people being negative (and that is not aimed at the OP) for no reason at all.The World come on.....0 -
If you cant find any jobs in hospitality industry then have a rethink about applying for other jobs in other sectors you could do but continually keep an eye out for something in hospitality0

I think Blue Arrow take on staff for the hospitality industry? The World come on.....0

And there the problem lies.
The reality is that for every job advertised in the 'scanty' job page, there will likely be hundreds of applicants for that job.
Maybe you 'cannot stand' people seeking work being negative but it is also apparent you cannot 'understand' either.
You failed to mention in your rebuff of my post whether or not you are in employment - I suspect you are - but I stand to be corrected.
After being out of work a few months, even people with the most positive of outlooks can eventually become depressed - particularly if there is a likelihood of failing to service debt and a family to feed.
BTW - who has stated that there are NO jobs in care? I think terra_ferma was hinting that care sector recruitment may stagnate due to looming cuts but did not state there were no jobs in that sector.
I am not doubting that there are some jobs in care - but that is of scant comfort to anyone who does not have the appropriate skills or qualification to work in that sector - or indeed the other areas mentioned in your earlier post.
As I alluded to earlier, there will be another 1,000 people in the North East checking the scanty job pages tomorrow and it is likely that many of those will also feel like the OP in the not too distant future. If you cant find any jobs in hospitality industry then have a rethink about applying for other jobs in other sectors you could do but continually keep an eye out for something in hospitality
The only problem with applying for jobs in other sectors is that the many people who are experienced in those sectors who are unemployed will also be applying for those jobs. It is very likely that those with the experience of the role will be given priority over those who are embarking on a career change, however, I accept that there will be exceptions to the rule and I certainly would not discourage people who have no experience in other jobs from applying.0 -
