Landlady could be the one who got the commission from UW ! yes wait and see what UW lumber you with. Just make sure that you know the correct day/night reads and to be sure they don t do what many suppliers do and transpose the readings. No harm in telling the l/l what you intend to do.She cannot force you to stay with UW unless its in her rental agreementThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. My god. My thread t has been amalgamated
On Saturday , I received first bill. £53.52
Bear in mind, the flat is all electric, and I have lots of electric gadgets.
Opening day reading 1 December 23001/ estimated 31 December
Estimated day reading 23181
Opening night reading 2920
Estimated night reading 2951
In the meantime , I received an email telling me , the pictures are much clearer and have been forwarded to management
I assume I will get another, more expensive altered bill in the post anytime
Thanks0 -
After sending the clearest of readings , and doing more than above the call,of duty, I have just received a phone call.
They want me to submit a reading at 10am tomorrow, and again at 2pm.
The days of a person visiting us and assessing the problem are long gone.
Smart meters are the way forward.
I wonder how many of the staff ,can fit a lightbulb . ?!?0 -
Looks like the meter could be faulty . Both readings from 10am,and 2pm are the same . I will be getting a call, later this evening.
However, when I put the ketlle on to,test, one reading was the same but one reading increased by one digit .
Utility warehouse say I will have to pay for a new meter if faulty.
I think they mean the landlady . Any advice ?0 -
Apparently the meter is faulty, and will be changed on weds 15/2
Annoying, as it means. That the end of Feb/ march bills could be really expensive .0 -
Be aware that if you accept their offer to have free low energy lightbulbs installed throughout your house you are then tied in to staying with Utility Warehouse for mobile, home phone and broadband for 4 years. Fine if you are happy to do that.
My gripe is that customers should be told this automatically when when booking the appointment.
I only found this out today when I phoned to book the appointment, and only in having a conversation about something else fortunately the 4 year' rule' cropped up.
I was told that the rep should have mentioned it when he called (frankly I cant remember that far back!) and 'it's on the website'. Yes it is, but you only find the t/cs if you drill down enough.
I cancelled the appointment and will install them myself.0 -
I'm not convinced that's enforceable, TBH
Pretty decent LED bulbs are available at poundland0 -
We have recently moved house. We supplied a meter reading to first utility at the end of the month and the previous owners supplied one to Utility warehouse when we moved in. Whilst in the first month UW asked us if we wanted to switch to them. I said no as I had agreed with FU to stay with them. They had not offered us any kind of tariff.
We have a bill now from UW covering the handover period from UW to FU which is not their cheapest tariff nor on a direct debit. I have rung to say, i(in Jan) happy to pay a bill on their cheapest tariff, they say they cannot change the bill retrospectively. Secondly, they sent a bill dated 1st Feb and arrived today 7th Feb. I have a day to pay it in. IS the slowest mail service in the world? Please help and advise, quickly as I don't want to not pay the bill.0 -
Unfortunately you have made a classic error and asked a question that crops up on the forum quite often.
There is a misconception, sometimes, when people move property that they take their current energy supplier with them.
This is an incorrect assumption, and you cannot do it.
1) Say you are with FU in property A and want to move house. You give FU a final meter reading for your account at that address. You then pay the final bill and close the account.
2) You then move into property B . The first thing you need to do is find out who currently supplies property B (in this case UW). It may be a different supplier to your last address.
3) The very act of moving into to a new property means you are already in a deemed contract with that supplier. It is your job to find out who it is (in this case UW), ring them up and create an account with an opening meter reading ASAP.
4)Once you have done this, only then can you switch supplier (usually by using a comparison site). This can take another 4 or so weeks.
If you have moved into the property and just contacted FU to create an account, and they are not the current supplier for the property this will inevitably cause problems. At some point you will get a bill from the actual supplier, and it will probably be at a standard rate. FU should not really have allowed you to create an account if they were not the existing supplier in the new property. But it is not really their fault and these things slip through the net.
So, in summary, you are liable for the bill that UW have created from the period you moved in until whatever date you have agreed with them, usually at the standard tariff.0
