  • Yet another lazy lazy response when you have lost the argument, Walter. You may like to look at the huge Moto G thread I started a while ago (and contributed regularly to). I suppose I now work for Tesco/Motorola as well? Or how about my fervent recommendation of the Huawei G300 on here a while ago? Do I also now work for Huawei? Or my strong previous recommendations for Virgin SIM only (until they messed about with the T&Cs). Do I also work for Virgin? Fact is when I get what I think is a good deal I like to SHARE IT. It's sort of what the forums are about...isn't it?

Now, about the Fixed to April 2018 fixed deal lol..

Not sure how you get the blue quote box... aaargh!

You need to click 'Quote' at the bottom of the post to which you intend to reply.

If you want to include another quote in your post, you simply copy and paste the words into your post. Then select those words by swiping with the left mouse button, and clicking the quote.gifbutton.
I don't take being messed around lightly and have warned him of this! I know.... I guess this is where I look gullible..

Just a point on the above, a great many of the 30,000 UW salesmen are absolutely clueless about UW products and are incapable or uninterested in giving any of the claims critical examination.
  • Hey, I did not mean to cause a stir. It was just a genuine query I put out there as a potential customer. Surely you have to sound out the deal on offer to get the response from others who have considered it/used it or steered clear of it.
For those who have responded in that line of thought, I've found the advice very helpful, so thank you.
I hear your point Cardew about others posing to be this that or the other to sneakily advertise the company, but at least you can recognise them and the forum operators deal with them/their posts accordingly. Please don't minimise my intention of using the forum as the platform to help me make a decision.

Quentin, I see your point about the double back guarantee not being payable as I've not made a direct match. Thanks, never considered that. Will look closer into that one to see how it truly compares.
It's a shame some make personal digs at others as that's what sparks the fury and loses the point of the thread. Other than that I've found it very helpful, so thank you again for your time.
I'm still walking with an air of caution so certainly not rushing into anything for now. Will spend more time reading the T&Cs as Quentin suggested.
    Cheers x
  • Thanks Cardew about the tip of using the quote box. Will try it next time.
Just rushing out now...it's school hols and my boys are waiting to go out. Will sign back in later xx

Absolutely no intention of preventing you using the forum to assist you making a decision - it is the whole purpose of MSE.

The trouble is that in many cases the 'trolls' are not recognised. We had someone posting for a couple of years and adamant he wasn't a UW Distributor. Anyway he was 'exposed'(not difficult with some IT knowledge) on this thread. He shut down his UW dealer's website and deleted a mass of his posts on this thread, and then threatened legal action. Too late of course - screen shots had been taken.!

It is surely obvious that Quentin, myself and a handful of other who chime in from time to time, have no vested interest in pointing out that in many of the guarantees are effectively worthless, and the T & C's negate many of the advantages claimed. As said earlier, without that input, this thread would simply become advertising for UW.

Ha ha...I don't know how they can be bothered or find the time! Clearly too much time on their hands to go through all that effort.

No - point taken. Your views are just as valid as you are looking at things with a critical eye - pushes my thinking and helps me to look at the deal more objectively, so thank you.

I tried the advice on including the quote, it still didn't work. Not sure if that tab is working as it doesn't appear to do anything when I click it. Will persevere. xx
  • The idea of having a single bill for gas, elec, phone, mobile and broadband is great...until you have to deal with UW. Since we moved not a week has gone by without a problem. We have been billed incorrectly, my mobile was logged as pay as u go instead of contract, even though I was paying contract and was cut off more than once AND since joining we have not had any significant uptime on our broadband connection. Technical support takes forever to get through to and nothing is progressed. Forget using email support, despite their claims to respond in 4 days, they don't ....it's weeks if at all. Very disappointed. When you come to rely on the internet for banking, kids homework, shopping etc this is a major inconvenience. Nice idea, badly executed. We have taken the step to move to an alternative comms provider, but reading some of the reviews here there may be further troubles ahead. Eek!
  • Thanks Orangutan88 for your input.

..... Since we moved not a week has gone by without a problem. .... AND since joining we have not had any significant uptime on our broadband connection.

Can I please ask - How long have you been with UW?

Also how often are your uptime problems, hourly, daily, weekly etc and what's the average time you get your successful uptime for? That would REALLY annoy me!! As like you, I use my internet for all sorts!

Could I also ask, what area you live in? Wonder if it's a regional thing. Nevertheless it shouldn't be happening!!

But...Hmmmm... sounds worrying! Definitely a little more food for thought for me. The distributer wants to come back round on Wednesday to try and sign me up .

More research first mi thinks! :( xx

Hope nobody thinks I was a troll or undercover UW distributor when I posted my question a few pages back?

My friend is a UW distributor who is, of course, very keen to sign me up but I wanted to get some figures to do a calculation myself at this stage.

I like being with PlusNet for landline & BB, so am not overly keen about leaving them.

I don't like the idea of a cashcard, much prefer a credit card and the one I use is a charitable affinity card - so reluctant to stop using that (despite the fact I know it only gives pennies).

Not everything is about cost, is it?

Need a SIM-only mobile tariff but in order for it to be free on UW, I need to take the bundled mobile / landline / BB (or whatever it is).

The fuel might be cheaper if all other services are also taken from UW, but as soon as you knock them out then it gets more expensive.
  • Yorkie I agree with your last point about as 'single entities' the products are probably not the best deal, but I think their is a bit of mileage in the bundle deal, so long as you can ensure your spending habits can bring you in enough cashback to reduce your bills and make them even cheaper than the bundle deal has to offer. But you're right - you have to take the bundle deal (5 products) to get the best offer.

Although saying that, like Orangutan has just pointed out, it's all dependent on the quality of the service, which is now my key concern. No point saving money for a rubbish service and distressing customer experience! I'll raise such a point to the distributer and see what he has to say about it!
