Looks like inactive distributors get "fined" £4/month then for daring to stop recruiting (as presumably they see no benefit from the £4, compared with the £3 active reps pay to get "FOC" brochures and sign up forms)

A favourite tactic of some contributors is to attempt to discredit a poster to divert attention from UW's prices and selling tactics. e.g. Quentin may, or may not, have made a poor choice of Telephone provider - so apparently that disqualifies him from giving any advice/opinion on UW.

If you want to compare the prices of UW's gas and electricity against other companies, go to any comparison website and enter your details and it will show the costs.

In the same way, as Quentin suggests, simply read the small print of UW's 'Guarantees' to decide if they are a worthwhile Guarantee.

You will note that some of the many thousand UW salesmen frequent this thread - some properly declare their interest; others don't.

Ask any of the UW salesman contributors on MSE to defend the UW 'guarantees' and it is rare they will try. If they do Quentin will rip their argument to shreds.

My point is (and you KNOW it's a valid one) is that you really should look at the choices posters on here make before evaluating their advice. Ironically, both Quentin and you chose BT as your telecoms provider. They generally far very very badly in customer polls regarding customer service etc. Plus you generally have to commit for 18 months and pay over the odds for this 'service' compared to rivals. Then, as Quentin has so eloquently opined in the 'leaving BT thread' they are an an absolute nightmare when you try and leave penalty free in accordance with their T&Cs. quentin even had to resort to contacting the CEO's office to get any sort of 'service'. I mean, really??

You and Quentin chose BT as your telecoms provider. You are in here slagging UW (who charge FAR LESS for any comparable telecoms product and don't insist on a min term contract) and dishing out advice so do we just assume you know what you are talking about? Only an idiot would do that. Dig a little deeper and we all can see the company you keep. Your opinion is massively devalued by simply looking at the choices you have made.

I simply don't accept your premise that BT provide a poor service and are bad value - for myself. However I don't go on the telecoms board advocating that people join BT - individuals need to evaluate the deal BT offer; however if BT's publicity is correct, lots of people are re-joining the company.

You spend your time on this thread diverting attention away from the central issues people have with UW - their high gas and electricity prices being a major issue.

Despite your enthusiasm for the company - I note you don't get your gas and electricity from UW.

    Diversion Alert.

I have BT for my landline and internet.

    For my payments.

I get all my landline calls, including 0845/0870 inclusive 24/7.(not premium or 0844)

I have BT Infinity 2 which gives up to 60Mbps download and 15Mbps upload. Typically I get 50/13Mbps.(at the moment 48.24/11.98Mbps)

I have unlimited downloads, and with my daughter seemingly constantly downloading for two smart TVs, I suspect I use a lot. The nice thing is I don't need to check!

We can all use free WiFi on our mobile devices at 5 million hot spots in UK(and some abroad - I understand??)

We all get the comprehensive security package(McAfee)

We get both the BT HD TV Sport Channels(on TV and PC/mobile devices) free(although I suspect that feature will not last!) Watching Spurs beat Man Utd at Old Trafford was alone worth the subscription!

I got the latest BT Hub 5 free which is getting some excellent reviews. http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/network-wifi/3489762/bt-home-hub-5-review/?tab=verdictTab#zzz

    A 24/7 Freephone help number.

    BT Cloud storage.(50GB)

    11 email addresses.

For the above I pay £11.75 a month line rental(12 months payment) and £21 monthly for all phone/internet.

Personally I think that is excellent value.

    P.S.
Getting back to UW, all we are suggesting is that people go to a comparison website to check UW's gas and electricity prices, and read the small print to see how what their Guarantees offer.

** I originally posted this in the utilities section and it was suggested i move it here (i've re-posted it) **

    good morning experts!

i've recently rented a property and called the supplier to swap the name on the account over to me.

i've got a bill off them after slightly over two months of occupation and they are charging me for gas, electricity, home phone and broadband (all on the same bill)

Now the gas and electricity i'm happy with, i've got to have that after all, but i dont want and certainly didnt ask for home phone and broadband.

it seems that the previous tenant didnt cancel their phone and broadband service and as the guy on the phone told me when i called the provider after receiving my first bill, all the services at the property automatically transferred over to me when i moved in.

now this seems more than a bit harsh to me, supplying me something i didnt ask for and telling me i have to pay for it!

The question is, do i need to? i havent used the phone or the broadband and i didnt want nor request it, nor was i told when i gave gas and electricity readings that those services were active. is there some sort of precedent or law or something i can fire back at them that will make them see the error of their ways?

    thanks!!!
  • My friend is giving me the thing (again) about how they are the cheapest provider.

Can somebody please explain if this is true, and if not, why?

I can't use the price comparison websites because I don't have an energy provider. I just want to know if what he is saying is somewhat misleading, which I suspect it is.

    Thanks

If you haven't got an energy supplier, you are not using any energy so its immaterial.

You don't need a provider. Put any old details into a price comparison site - average UK consumption is 13,500 KWh gas and 3,200 KWh elec if you want a starting point.

Check out where you find them in the pricing league table.

I can't speak about any of the other services, although I'm sure there will be some reps on here along shortly.

  • Hi everyone,

I note there is a large discussion surrounding the cost of electricity, broadband etc but is anyone able to give me their views on the cash back card? My partner is seriously considering joining UW purely because of the benefits associated with the pre-paid cash card. He currently spends around £300 a week on petrol for his business so could potentially do well from this.
    Any opinions gratefully received....

The cashback card has the potential to make being with Utility Warehouse worthwhile. We don't spend as much at the shops associated with it as we used to and so we only have two mobile phones with them nowadays. Most months UW put money into our bank account because of our card use at Sainsbury's, Boots etc. Should one spend large amounts at the appropriate stores then I'd say do your sums to make sure it is worthwhile before actually making your decision.
