Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion

Imo far better to just ring them. We are miles away from our local exchange so have never had great speeds with any supplier. A week or so ago the speeds seemed to be slowing from the usual 4Mbps (down to around 3.3) so I rang them and they have now cranked it up to approx 4.5mb down/0.85 up and the usual ultra reliable service (we have never lost service in many years AFAICR). Best speed we have ever had with any supplier)
My advice would be to use weq4u and ring the 0844 815 0000 number on your mobile for just a local call which comes out of your allowance. Should you hit a queue then hit 9 and * and the app suspends the call and rings you back when they answer (so no cost to your allowance whilst in the queue!). IME they are very friendly and informative (they use talktalk service but crucially have their own in-house CS located in their Head Office in London which Penrhyn simply forgot to mention I'm sure).0 -

I seem to have opened a can of worms with this thread and my original question hasn't been answered......
I am trying to use the cheap energy club and when I click on the drop down box for " tell us you current gas supplier" one of the options is telecom plus the utility warehouse.
My questions are
1. Is this the same as utility warehouse
2. My tariff on my UW bill is standard which isn't in the "current gas deal" drop down so what do I select?
Please help!0 -

I assure you, the can of worms on here was opened many years ago so don't be so hard on yourselfHere we go:
1. Yes. Publicly listed Telecom Plus is the name of the holding company and Utility Warehouse is a trading name.
2. Some switching sites call it Standard and some sites call it Medium.

1. Yes
2. UW have 4/5 different tariffs, though "standard" isn't one of them. If your bill says standard, to get the correct one for comparison purposes ask uw what your tariff is.
But mainly devote your time to preparing for the pleasant shock on your way on how much the MSE free energy club will show you are going to save!!0 -
BTW, I received answer to my email yesterday by a guy claiming that they managed to crank my broadband speed to 5.7 Mbits (probably by lowering the signal-to-noise tolerance), and that this was the limit of the line.
As soon as I get the new router and the ADSL faceplate, I will check the speed on the master socket. 5.7 is _almost_ acceptable, but in the long run I will probably still switch to optic fibre.
Will keep you informed.0 -

When the email came proclaiming the new club I thought at last a site that would be true on comparing energy costs.
The sites that existed before hand appeared to offer savings but when you looked further it did not appear to be the case. The headline savings melting into nothing when you approached the energy companies direct.Even if there were savings hanging on for the call centres to answer ........green sleeves option 1 .......option 4 were likely to all be used up.
"Thank you for calling XXXXX my name isn't really Derek,Mark,Mary or whatever else I tell you.....in case you want to call back ~~~~~How may I misunderstand you and p@ss you off today........."
Anyway rant over on call centres.
The perception and that's as important as the truth is that the old switching sites got commissions for the energy companies and it was all a bit dodgy .
How could just inserting your postcode result in a massive annual saving by switching to RIP OFF ENERGY LTD owned by overseas lads who get others to knock on your door.Together with the email telling me that a little old lady in Nigeria has left me $500,000,000 only need to send $5,000 deposit I have hit the jackpot.
Back to reality 2013 and the new Energy Club.I enter my details with care double checking and eagerly press the Enter Key.Bingo there are a number of suppliers who apparently can save me over 60% off my current combined Leckie and Gas Bills.
Whilst I would like to hope this would be the case I really doubt it.
I am currently with The Utility Warehouse (not scammers) who Which magazine continually rate as good value.
I have read the detail on the website which sounds kosher but can this really be.
Anyone else used the site and found the pot of gold......
MARTIN IS THE SITE OK or has Moneysupermarket.con.......intervened?
Thanks in advance to anyone replying

A friend of mine told me about this, said you can earn some money on commission.
I went to https://www.utilitywarehouse.co.uk and filled out a form for some information pack.
But aparently you need to pay an upfront fee of £100. I have had constant emails from somone who really wants me to join, they said they tried to ring me all day> !!!!!!.
I only wanted some info.
So, if anyone knows some genuine info on this, this would be great.0 -
I contacted my energy provider after visiting the energy Club.
I sent an e mail and got this as part of the reply. Below in bold. I then got a phone call from them. A lady in fairness not pushy and offering a balanced view on the points I had raised about their rates and the savings offered elsewhere. She talked through the available tariffs and cutting a long story short they have reduced their unit rates on a revised tariff for me so should be doing very well moving forward
