  • What Cardew says about 'lots of the 30,000+ distributors' can be taken with a pinch of salt. In truth, what happens is an occasional chancer posts a bit of spam and gets deleted. It might hapen a couple of times per week at most.

What happens much more often is a sensible UW discussion gets interrupted by the anti's who don't like other people talking sensibly in their thread, so they then start abusing and accusing. That's far more of a problem in this thread than any distributor spam. ;)

Quite. It would appear Cardew attaches the same sort of extremely loose definition to the words 'a lot of' as he does to the words 'just about'. :p Alistair Campbell would be proud of his work on here. :D

I suggest you look back in this thread and see who makes all the 'personal attacks'.
  • hello, it seemed the first question i asked opened a can of worms....

    Sorry.
  • Something a little less contentious perhaps! I am pondering on using UW, ignoring any issues along the lines of "are they actually cheaper than if you shop around" I would welcome your experiences of transferring your phone and broadband to them, did it go smoothly and seamlessly, or otherwise?

I've had them the last two months as I moved into a new place with them as suppliers; never came across them before, was a bit wary given some reviews, the pyramid style selling and the 'clubhouse' idea I found a bit plebby.

That said, however, assuming I get back without any hassle the hundred squid I gave them as a deposit for my meter while awaiting changevoer date, I've found them quite easy to contact, fairly good at communicating and the prices - whatever tariffs I'm on - have been pretty good. They've also sorted out the problem caused by the last occupants of the address that delayed my transfer dates after a short phone call.

I'm moving over to a company with seemingly better prices and better customer ratings and which offers tariffs without a daily standing charge (as I'll be away from home for a couple of months a year), as they are my preference, not as a result of any distinct probs with UW.

Hi, I just signed up for gas, electric, telephone, broadband and mobile SIM card. It was recommended to me by a family member who is not a distributor, nor has any intention of being one. To be honest, I knew I could probably get a better deal elsewhere if I shopped around, but I like the concept, the cash back card and the distributor. I already had a really good deal before on a fixed rate, which came to an end, so after signing up with UW, they are still saving me money on what I was paying altogether even with the £2.50 club membership fee. Will let you know if the changeover goes to plan. ;) I just think some people hate the reality that others will make a living out of their money, but why else would you help out a complete stranger? I think being honest and doing your homework are key. When the ID said to me about the price guarantees etc, I knew that saying they are cheaper than the big 6 standard tariffs was not the same thing as "we are the cheapest tariff", and you can get double your money back if we aren't cheaper is easy if the customer is on a standard tariff. So there isnt any trickery, just careful wording. Nothing wrong with that.

If your really interested in saving money your probaly find that stand alone suppliers would be cheaper.

You dont have to be a distributor to benefit from recommending the company. Customers get a credit off there bills for doing so.

If the rep told you they are "cheaper than the big 6 standard tariffs", then he wasn't using "careful wording" at all.

    He was lying.

I feel a little defensive Gus. I am a new customer of UW, and have like you been asked if I am interested in being a distributor. It isnt pyramid selling-that's illegal, but multi-level marketing. Read everything you can on the internet (and between teh lines), you get some really inspiring stories, coupled with a few doubts of "is it worth the effort". Overall, on reading everything I can find, I am leaning towards giving it a go. But it isnt a get rich quick scheme, but time and perseverance to generate an income. I may just be happy to earn enough that my bills are nil. Everyone is different. Your friend won't be making much out of you, but trying to build up a team for future pay increases.
