Ryanair Not Paying for Booze?

Ryanair bod on GMTV has stated that they do not consider expense claims for alcohol to be 'reasonable'.
I am inclined to agree. Whilst food, non alcoholic drink, hotels etc are essentials, alcohol is certainly not. I would not expect an employer to cover alcohol costs whilst working away from home (except when entertaining clients), so I would not expect an airline to do the same.
Opinions are most welcome!

I agree. Alcohol is not an essential . Anyone thinking of claiming for it is heading for a downfall.0

agree, the airlines who have given a policy for refunds are also saying the same from what I have read. You can give Ryanair as much stick because of some of their policies but at least they are making statements about refunds whilst major airlines such as KLM AF still sit on their hands and tell passengers they arent paying.
toothpaste now theres a different arguement

It's the mentality of modern Britain sadly. We live in a 'claim society' - Whatever happened to the days where you slipped, got up and got on with your day. Now everyone wants to get something.
Claiming for alcohol for some will be them simply trying it on, but for others they will genuinely feel like they are entitled to it.
Pathetic really.The Summer Holiday of a Lifetime0 -
I would think that a couple of pints with a meal could reasonably be claimed for (my boss does not have any issues with that when I put my work travel expenses through).
If you're trying to get a refund for a bottle of Bollinger, now that'd be a different matter ...0 -
And after you have been well fed and watered it would be nice if they offered yuu a choice of sleeping partner just to pass the time while waitingBe good to the young on their way up you might need them on your way down.0

It was quite surreal to be sitting in Stansted departures with it very busy at the Wetherspoons bar with people drinking wine, beer and eating big meals. Yet it was 5.15am!0

our meal bills which we have submitted to ryanair will all have wine on them - we drink wine with our meals when we're on holiday as we do most evenings at home! the kids have coke/water with their meals on holiday - which are usually more expensive than the wine. as for expenses while away with work there would be mutiny if we weren't able to claim for reasonable amounts of wine/lager with our dinner while working away from home at their behest.0

Your sarcasm is unproductive, uncalled for, and you have missed the point. I would fully agree that neither an employer nor an airline should have to re-imburse for large quantities or extravagantly pricey choices of alcohol. It's all about whether a claim is reasonable.0 -
entirely reasonbale imo, when coping with the stess of abandonment (sp?), and illegal (non) treatment by ryanair..?
regardless of ticket price, they have a duty of care? oh, and also CAA rules, i beleive..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

The CAA rules that say the airline should fill you will alcohol before flying then?
(Don't forget to claim for the cigars after the meal as well)0
