Back home... house is a tip but I don't care
grass needs cutting as usualy
Couple of questions - my US assistant (the one who worked while in labour) has post-natal depression, and also her breast milk production is too low for her to be able to express effectively. As she'll be back at work next month, any ideas that any of you have to help EITHER (she's on prozac already, which may not be ideal, they tend to over-prescribe it in the US) would be appreciated...
I'm not asking from a medical perspective, just practical ideas to help with the day to day realities of going to back to work 8 weeks after giving birth...0 -
Breast milk - feed, feed and feed some more it works on supply and demand. She needs to drink lots too. I could never express much when babes were young and hers is very young. Best time is first thing in the morning - feed babe from one side whilst expressing from the other if possible. HTH. Sorry don't know about the PND

Only to tell her not to feel guilty! She's got to find a solution that works for her. I fed DS1 for a few weeks, but was persuaded that he didn't get enough (seemed to be feeding non-stop) and started him on bottles, which he loved and did well on. DS2 was a different story alltogether. I fed him until I went back to work, but couldn't express enough milk. Unfortunately he wasn't at all keen on bottles and when he had a bad cold, I was advised to wean him earlier than planned. I still fed him at night until he was one year old. I was worried about his weight etc for ages, but he's fine now and has bags of energy. Food still isn't a big priority for him, though. Both boys were born in May and I went back to work in September each time. Breastfeeding is great, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way.
ETA Trying to express enough milk for a full day at work when you are tired and worried about not being able to express enough can really add to your stress and be counterproductive. I'd advocate breastfeeding, but not at all cost.0 -
Stupid moment of the day: I'm so tired I ran Tim a bath but forgot to put the bath mat on the floor. It was hanging over the side of the bath, so it's completely soaked now! Ooops!
I can't seem to unbold that bit above ^ Not sure why it's in bold in the first place
Greenbee, I don't have any advice for your colleague, but it sounds like she needs a hug"Snowflakes are one of nature's most fragile things, but just look what they can do when they stick together."

I (and I have said this before) deliberately, and frequently sniffed baby DD because I knew she'd be my last - I haven't sniffed a new BF baby since
business.
ETA and now I have caught up seems I am not the only one to realise how they smell. My 'helpful' HV told me I would NOT be able to express enough milk fo DS...(he was about 6 months when I went back to work) so I didn't try. I 'dried up' quite quickly too...presumably because demand had plummetted. Greenbee just tell her the choices/decisions she makes must, as they are HER choices, be right for her. So whatever she does is fine! Welcome home
I echo what Dusty said - not only in the welcome home but in the colleague advise to feed, feed, feed and drink, drink, drink (water that is!). But, please, tell her to feed equally from both breasts - particularly in the morning.
I remember once, with DD still v. small and still feeding, I took her away with me to a weekend meet. Part of that meet was a sunday morning church service. I made the mistake of wearing a fairly close fitting jumper and then realising as I walked back down the aisle after taking communion that I had one enormous boob and one rather deflated one.
You guessed it, I'd only fed her from one side...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Wooosh - there's that comment going straight over my head! I've heard of Lady Ga Ga but am not acquainted with her songs.
Thought I wasn't ever going to get chance to post today! List done ages ago, but been busy, busy, busy. Sidney has 4 walks per day, and takes a lot of persuading to eat, as his food is extremely bland (I gather it tastes like cardboard..... how the lady who runs the franchise knows this, I'm uncertain.....:D)
Anyway, the little guy seems to have settled OK, we got his injection into him OK (me holding him and keeping my eyes shut, and Mr LW wielding the syringe)

Firstly Boddy, big huggles to your DGS...poor lad. xxx
I doned loads I did.:D
Where to start....well apart from numerous dw and wm and putting away stuff, folding washing from baskets and radiators, I've not stopped.
DD2 has a few friends over so I decided to do a barbeque for them.....it's been a heavy week as you know from the other thread I posted re the bullying.
Anyway I unpacked some stuff from the shed
tidied the garden
swept the concrete
got the umbrella out
wiped plastic table and chairs with stardrops
got barbeque going
set a little table with condiments
put everything in food recycling or bin as we went along
fed them burgers and hotdogs
made chocolate bananas on the barbeque (first time) they went down a storm
tidied up after them
washed up many big itemsd
hubby fixed DW again, top drawer keeps falling off!
cleared bags away neatly under table
declutted bench seat in dining room so people can actually sit on it
wiped worktops
burnt rubbish in fireplace
hoovered front room
placed various piles of washing and stuff on stairs for various folks to put stuff away
cleared dining table and wiped
charged ipod
rang friend
suggested we have a barbeque tomorrow with friends
bought stuff for tomorrows barbeque
decluttered 3 girls to bed with a dvd
went to pub with hubby
took some painkillers as legs have seized
I am now officially ker nackered....awaiting hubbys return and then bed I think.
Will hang out washing tomorrow.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08
