Tesco overcharging for petrol?
Comments

Petrol costs differently at different outlets. Is this not mean to happen OP?0

One shop/garage sells something at a different price form another?
Whatever next!;)
They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit!
Supermarket petrol prices are generally competitive to attract motorists to fill their tanks and get their shopping in the same trip. That does not seem to be the case with Tesco.
Certainly where I live, our local Tesco is always more expensive than the nearby Shell garage just down the road. The fuel at Shell will likely be of a better quality to boot.
I have to commend Morrison's who always seem offer reasonable prices on their fuel.
I hear what the OP is saying and it would seem that people are being misled by the Tesco '5p per litre discount' when it is usually overpriced in the first place.
Drifting completely off thread - can anyone explain why the price of Red Bull has shot through the roof?0 -
You do realise that all the supermarkets get their fuel from ESSO?0

You do realise that all the supermarkets get their fuel from ESSO?
Are you sure? - I suspect not. I would imagine the nearest refinery will determine the supplier and it is likely that BP/SHELL and others will have their share of supemarket deliveries.
Is that suggesting that the fuel quality will be the same in ALL supermarkets as what is sold at Esso outlets?
Can I remind you of the fuel fiasco a few years ago when crappy fuel was sold by some supermarkets leading to cars breaking down all over the place? Supermarket fuel will likely contain more cheaper additives and be of inferior quality.
Many branded food manufacturers also make 'own brand' products for supermarkets. That does not mean to say that the quality will be the same.0 -
Like I said, some Tesco garages aren't allowed to undercut their lowest priced rivals. It's a condition of being allowed to have a petrol station. I know I wouldn't want Tesco to put all the other garages out of business (and if you live in a small town this is quite likely), and then you'll only have a Tesco petrol station and no others. Then they can do what they like with their prices as they don't have competition anymore.0

5p off vouchers are regularly given. Problem is: They have no petrol station.
It would probably cost you more than the 5p per ltr saving, driving to the nearest Tesco Petrol station which is several miles away.Trying to learn something new every day.0 -
£1.20 a litre translated, it means around £6.00 a gallon
When I first started driving it was 4s.9d a gallon and we used to moan about that as well.:):)0 -

I was not being sarcastic - I was pointing out the bleeding obvious.
My local Morrisons is the most expensive garage near me, followed by BP, then Tesco then Shell. Cheapest by 2p a litre is ASDA but it is not on my regular route.
They sell things at different prices and all of them are still in business.0 -
I got so use to Tesco being the cheapest for petrol in the past i don't even look anymore. I must check before i fill up next time.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

The fuel sold in supermarket filling stations does come from the nearest refinery, but it does not contain any additives to boost performance or keep the injectors clean. Thats why it returns about 12% less mpg than branded fuel (speaking as a diesel driver)
Liked the link to Tesco veggie oil, wonder if either my '97 Astra 1.7TD, or my '97 2,5L Ford-engined non-turbo LDV convoy would run on it.Never Knowingly Understood.
