I signed up on 25th July and was given an activation date of the 28th however it's now the 18th August and I'm still not connected!

Eclipse say it's a BT fault and an engineer needs to visit the exchange but luckily I seem to have a good contact in Eclipse who is keeping me up to date with progress. I don't know if I'd have signed up with another ISP that it would have been any different, but at least the Customer service side of things looks promising although obviously I can't comment on the connectivity/speed aspects!

I signed up last Saturday. I was with e7even and waited weeks for a cease. By Monday evening my service was working and we are getting between 3 and 5m. Speeds drop in the evening, and as we are still in the 10 day training, we have had a couple of very short disconnections, which came straight back up again.
I am very pleased with the service and although it takes a while to get through on the phone, don't give up. They have been very helpful and seam to know what they are talking about.

The issue to watch out with ECLIPSE INTERNET at the moment is that they are unilaterally moving customers from BT ADSL circuits to alternative circuit providers via Local Loop Unbundling of ADSL - eg Tiscali.

eg I received a letter TODAY Sat 19/8 saying I was being so migrated from BT (doesnt say who to) on Mon 21/8 (or sometime soon after, the letter is not clear).

As such it APPEARS that although Eclipse hold themselves out as subscribing to the OFCOM supported voluntary Migration Code of Practice, they MAY NOT in practice be able or willing to provide MACs to customers moved in this way to LLU circuits. I say MAY not because it SEEMS they can't/don't provide MACs from LLU but have yet to have 100% confirmation from them.

I was an E7even Easynet LLU customer who ended up without broadband for over 3 weeks because of the absence of such MAC and/or robust industry codes of conduct - which ONLY THIS WEEK OFCOM are consulting about. And this after the year before when I had been without broadband for 2 weeks when migrating away from BT 'engineer installed' ADSL which was also un MACable! AND for 2 of the last 3 weeks my BT ADSLmax circuit has been disrupted, apparently caused by "work at the exchange, reconfiguring it for LLU".

Accordingly I am VERY sensitive to not being able to MAC away and further circuit disruption.

I would certainly seek to get confirmation from Eclipse that any ADSL service they provide you as a new customer WILL BE COVERED BY THE MIGRATION CODE OF PRACTICE if you similarly hold this to be VERY VERY important. I am certainly pursuing this as a matter of urgency and importance with Eclipse who have CONCEALED this POTENTIALLY fundamental change in the service. Of course I HOPE they will reply they are still 100% MAC'able but somehow I doubt it.

Meanwhile here's hoping the OFCOM consultation on this topic does lead to an OBLIGATORY code on migrations SOON.

I hasten to add that I'm NOT currently seeking to leave Eclipse - for £14.99/m I had 100% service for first 3 months and after 2.5wks of patchy service (that Exchange work!) a BT Engineer visit which found nothing wrong with the line to me) sorted it after his return to exchange. Tech support take 10-20 minutes to pick up the phone but it being a 01... number it costs me nothing on my phoneplan, and have been mostly professional and always polite and clear. It's just if the service or valueformoney dip then I want a CLEAR QUICK EXIT route not the mire's I've been in too often.

Yeah, prob best to use and markup tags (without spaces)

but he does have a point 'bout Eclipse moving people over to LLU ;)
  • I think i've found it. 8mb semi uncapped for 9.99 for the first month going to 14.99. Subject to a very fair use policy that is the best i've seen. It's eclipse internet, it's owned by kingston telecom so it must be OK.

looks good, but you have to pay bt for line rental, there must be a company that can include this or do it cheaper?
    need to do better
  • I prefer to pay BT for the line rental because i use 18185 and you don't save that much by switching just to try and save on line rental. We don't have cable or services like Talk Talk where we live anyway.
  • I have been with Eclipse and have found them very reliable; everyday I log on and it works just fine. Customer service is pleasant and intelligent. I rate them very highly after my experience of the dreaded E7even farce. Eclipse come up well on most reviews
