I've had the same accusation from pizza hut in cardiff. Wasn't given a ticket but received the letter demanding payment. Suspect they caught me on the CCTV cameras. How the hell do they know what facilities you've used? Do they scan all CCTV footage for the whole area to see if your eating at any of the 3 establishments covered by the car park - or am I being paranoid? I'm scared to ignore cos I think - what if I'm the one they decide to make an example of? A bloke I know reckons his mum was taken to court for parking in that area. I just wish I could be sure.

You can be sure the bloke you know just means that his Mum thought she was going to be taken to Court because of the debt collector letters; they always pretend they are about to start litigation.

You will receive similar letters, but NGP have never taken anyone to Court AFAIK, they are just like other PPCs, they rely on threats and people believing that debt collectors are the same as bailiffs (they are completely different, debt collectors have zero powers).

Read the whole parking board threads until your eyes glaze over and you realise how common this scam is. Almost every thread on this list is about a private ticket like yours and NO-ONE has been taken to Court, ALL posters have ignored the letters as well:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

In particular, read that first sticky thread 'PPC letters/threats, what to expect' as you can get a preview of the sort of debt collector letters you will be sent, and can safely ignore as they are trash. NGP use one of the debt collector shown on there I think (might be Roxburghe or Debt Recovery Plus, have a look now and refer back to check the letter-chain for the correct firm when you receive the first piece of rubbish in the post).

Nothing happens, no CCJs, no Court case, no effect on your credit rating - none of the lies in the letters are true. Your friend's Mum paid for no reason at all.

Coupon-mad, you were absolutely right! I e-mailed my friend for clarification regarding his mum and to quote him "my mum's a goody two shoes so as soon as they threatened court and ruined credit ratings she paid up!" Phew! So i've put the letter in a drawer and will just wait for the follow ups (and ignore those too). Thanks!

did anymore come about from your letters? I've received for parking at the cardiff bay Pizza Hut, due to a change of plans I met my friends at a different place but decided as I was parked to leave my car there. Really don't want to pay 75 for this but want to see what I should do.

You case is no different to all the other cases featured on here. So just ignore these scammers and don't contact them. You don't owe them a penny. It's as simple as that!

Your car got a ticket or a letter was sent to the registered keeper, any contract they believe exists is between the driver and them. That night you were not driving.;) remember!

Ignore them they will persist a little then disappear!

Do not pay them, this is a scam.

Start reading the top threads on this forum and click on all the links to the letters you have to ignore, and the youtube link to Watchdog's advice:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=163

Then just randomly read as many other PPC threads on that list as it takes until you see that the safe advice is ALWAYS ignore the ticket and the debt collector letters.

Despite what the bogus ticket says, do not appeal, you do not have to respond and would only be giving them info they don't have. Nothing will happen after the letter-chain has run its course (occasionally the debt collectors phone as well - big wow).

But there are no bailiffs, no CCJ and no effect at all on your credit rating.

HTH, now enjoy Christmas and spread the word to friends & family about this scam.

  • Hi, I have also received a parking charge notice from this company for parking in pizza hut car park Cardiff Bay. I see that everyone is advised to totally ignore any correspondence from the company. However before I did some research through some forums, I appealed. I decided to appeal because I only used the car park briefly to use the toilet in the redragon centre(I didn't park there cos I didn't have any money on me) because I suffer from crohns disease I had not option but to get to a toilet, and if I go into a restaurant I would have to explain the situation which is very embarrassing for me. Any ways I mentioned all of this in the appeal, so in a way I have confirmed that I was the driver on the day.

So I was wondering if the same advice would apply to me? I have ignored there first letter and now have the usual pay up or we will take legal action etc.. Will they have more of a case because mentioned that I used the car park there by proving I was the driver in question.

    They are now after £150

    Same advice. Ignore it.

I've yet to see anyone who was given this advice on these or any other forums come back and say ' You were all wrong, I've been to Court and now the bailiffs are coming'.

Do you think a court would find that you owed someone £150 for going to the toilet?

    Relax and ignore.

Incidentally, what did they say about the 'appeal'? No doubt some insulting rubbish along the lines of "we sympathise, but the terms and conditions are clear"

Equality Act 2010. They are breaking it as they are effectively harassing you because of your Crohn's disease. Used to be the DDA but the legislation is better now as it includes harassment.

Although you didn't have business parking there, your condition meant you had to park somewhere quickly and there was no loss as a result of your car briefly being there. They would have to justify their harassing behaviour and they wouldn't be able to, if you fancied taking a punt against them in a Court case for harassment. The compensation for such a breach would easily be four figures IMHO even in your situation of just having the 'need' to park there rather than a business reason.

I keep saying this as I really hope someone with a longterm condition will do this to a PPC this year!

Not that it changes the advice to ignore the bogus PCN and all the threatograms that will follow.
