Daughters windows 7 laptop has suddenly stopped seeing or connecting to our home wireless network. There are the usual nieghbours networks in the list of available connections but our own has dissappeared from the list. I'm using the pc which has the linksys router attached so I think the router must be working. I have switched router off and rebooted but it hasnt solved it.
Shes on windows 7, I have windows xp pro pc and up until now she could see our network and automatically connect to it on start up of her laptop.
Edit
I have just checked it with her old xp pro laptop and that too is not connecting or seeing our wireless network, that also usually connects automatically on start up. Could there be something wrong with the router itself or could it have started to block it in some way? I'm not sure if this pc is wired direct to the modem or going through the router also, how can I check what is wrong?

Hi,Firstly your windows xp pro pc is connected via Ethernet cable?
if so your problem is more than likely to be your wireless part of your router.
as i'm new i can't send any links to you but i would recommend turning your router off for a good 5min's. Sometimes this just happens and you might have to re enable it via the admin panel. if you need further assistance don't hesitate to drop me a private msg.
Thanks0 -
I'm not sure how to check that but I can just see 2 blue wires going out of the back of the linksys, one is in a slot labled internet and the other end of that blue wire goes directly into the cable modem. The second blue wire at the back lof the linksys is in a slot in a row of 4 numbered 1-4 the rest are empty its in slot 4, the end of that cable goes directly into the back of the pc tower so not sure if its directly wired or going through router. The routers lights are on its a linksys wrt54g, power light is on, wlan light is on, internet number4 light is on and internet light is on. Just dont know why it suddenly stopped but daughter said it was on until I put the pc on in my room. It did go off in my room too so I rebooted and it was ok but still off in her room and now even her spare laptop will also not see or connect to network eitherThanx

Have you tryed powering down both? Router and the modem for about 10seconds then booting the Modem back up then the Router.
Looks like when your internet disconnected its caused a problem for the Router More than the modem as you can still connect via ethernet cable
also does your mobile phone or any other device (ipod touch,Xbox 360 etc..) use wireless try finding the network with them then you can narrow down the possibilities0 -
Try logging on to the router from your working PC using ie/firefox (probably http://192.168.2.1 username admin password admin/password) look at the basic wireless settings
Below the Mode should be mixed/G Only/B Only/Disabled - make sure not disabled
SSID should be your network name but probably is WRT54G
Check That Broadcast is Enabled (until you have solved the problems then you could disable it for a bit more security)
If you want to check your routers address go to Windows on the working pc enter Start/Run/CMD then enter ipconfig and the address is on the Default Gateway line.
Wireless Network Mode: Disabled Mixed B-Only G-Only
Wireless Network Name (SSID):
Wireless Channel: 1- 2.412 GHz 2 - 2.417 GHz 3 - 2.422 GHz 4 - 2.427 GHz 5 - 2.432 GHz 6 - 2.437 GHz 7 - 2.442 GHz 8 - 2.447 GHz 9 - 2.452 GHz 10 - 2.457 GHz 11 - 2.462 GHz 12 - 2.467 GHz 13 - 2.472 GHz
Wireless SSID Broadcast: Enable Disable
Wireless SES Function: Enable Disable

we've had a similar problem recently - I just switched the pc off and connected the laptop instead via the cable, found the settings and then disconnected it back to wireless.Bern :j0

I have tried several times to power down modem and router and have now left them off all night but its still the same. To be honest I have noticed a problem on and off for a while when I have the pc on I will lose internet when she turns on her laptop and the same happens to her if I turn the pc on but usually if we reboot either the laptop or pc it will go back to normal but not this time. We don't connect to the internet with mobile phones or ipods or anything, just the 2 laptops wirelessly and not sure if the pc is directly connected or also relying on router rather than modem I don't understand the way the wires work
I have just tried going to http://192.168.2.1 and it just gives me the explorer cannot display webpage and diagnose connection problem button
The default gateway when doing the cmd says 192.168.1.1
Not sure how to check the rest of these that debitcardmayhem listed

If no other device can see your wireless then it's probably packed in. Our 2 year old w/less modem had this happen 2 weeks ago but the wired side kept working.
Got a new one now-linksys , v.good0 -

I'm getting that username/password up now but have to try and remember them, I might have them wrote down somewhere then I'll check.
I am with virgin media so wondering if they will send me a wireless modem free, I'm only on 10mbs though and looking on their website the wireless modem they are showing is saying its a wireless N modem. Would my old pc work with that? it would be connected to the modem but the sony vaio nw20sf laptop says in the tech info 'draft n' would this mean she would need to have a network card stuck in to use this modem? I know she would need one for the older laptop thoughThanx

Yes they will work as they are, the "N" routers work backwards with G/B wireless at the G/B speeds. eg 54Mbps for G / 10Mbps for B no need to change them.
Did you try admin/admin I think that is the default for Linksys routers.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0
