I've only had her since Wednesday, she's around 4-5 the vet thinks.
Herbert is an old boy now, he was 13 in January.
The last picture is Willow, lying on my lap on top of Herbert.
Op, have you considered a mongrel? Generally far less problems.0 -
rescuedogs lovely pics, I dream of my girl being able to run off the lead like that. So far she's very nice, very very loving. Her first day with me she spent a couple of hours sniffing everything in the house, to see if it lived up to her expectations, I seem to have passed the test.
Luckily she doesn't bark much but does whine a bit.
She's also a typical terrier, very feisty, being a girl adds to that feistyness, is that a word? Also a bit of a bully, she went for a collie because it showed fear and made Herbert wet the bed as he also showed he was scared so she went for him.
I'm not sure if a westie or indeed most terriers would be a first time dog, as you need to let them know firmly without being cruel, who's the leader of the pack.
Of course with most rescues you don't get much history. An awful lot of love & satisfaction though, when they settle it's one of the best things in the world.
Can anyone tell me please whether the vet will be able to tell if she's been spayed.
The people who fostered who took her to the vets & blood tests & x-rays were taken. She has obviously whelped at sometime, her teats & vulva are quite enlarged but her stomach is firm, so presumably not recent.
She does have what appears to be a scar on her stomach but could I guess be from a c section.
I don't want her to come into season as she would probably kill Herbert when she's ready to mate.
Sorry OP for stealing your thread.0 -
Hethmar and FC where did you buy the dermacton from please? I use Pet Meds for prescription meds.
Debs, thats the great thing, its not prescription stuff, its genuinely just herbal. It takes a bit to get used to the smell of it but you doIts not a 100% stop them scratching as when the pollen gets bad mine still has a good old scratch but then you can bung some ointment on or give them a bath if need be.
But compared with a little dog covered in bald patches, red raw stomach, bare back legs and an open weeping patch on his chest when he came to us - wow, he is so much better now - we have got a bit complacent I think as we have forgotten how bad it was - he used to keep us awake all night as we could hear him chewing and scratching all the time.0 -
Hermum - love the piccies
Hethmar - I contacted Aromesse yesterday with a query and they have replied back - must say that has impressed me already - I am going to order some as with it being herbal I have nothing to lose0 -
Deb, I was the same. I bought some spray at first but the noise frightened Diggs so I then ordered some of the soap shampoo on line. A few minutes after Id sent the order online the phone rang and it was the girl from aromesse asking why Id ordered the soap - wasnt the spray working? She was worried that Id spend more money if the spray hadnt worked! I said to her it was just the noise frightened Diggs and she sent me the soap but said if it doesnt get you the results you want let us know and we will refund you.
So I was well impressed with their attitude too and I meant to say actually, both dogs have itchy ears in the spring/summer. Diggs has been treated 3 times with sterioids and anti biotics for ear infections/exzema (they couldnt make up their mind which!). This last time, I thought before I go to the vet Ill get some of the itchy ear drops from aromesse. Well, honest, one dose and he shook his head a bit but that was it, he didnt scratch them again. I did it for a few days and I honestly couldnt believe that his ears werent red raw and boiling hot like they always got.
I just thank god for the stuff to be honest - never thought Id find something that actually worked.0
