    You can buy the same thing for around £13 at Maplin. Lidl were doing one for £5 some while ago,

    All you need is something that measures instantaneous wattage and cumulative kWh.

    If you want to measure something that switches on and off(eg fridge or freezer) you plug fridge in via meter and leave it say 24 hours and it will show that it has used xkWh in that time.
