Daily meter readings.

How sad am I LOL? I'm going to take my electricity meter readings every day and spreadsheet them so I can see how things are going. Does anyone feel the need for obsessive compulsive detail freakery?
Seriouslly, I think it'll be interesting for a while.

Yes Tom, do the same but with WEEKLY figures. gas electric water and phone.
At the same time each week. Do monthly figures too with per annum readout. Into an an analysis book.
Gets really exciting coming up to the end of the month.
For example end Aug 05 to end Aug 06 should show another reduction in energy used, considering all the insulation in this house, and tips gained from this site.
To liven things up, often do an extrapolation. :=))0 -
Excellent idea - I'll do the same. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

I'm going for the random approach - take readings whenever I feel like it, but I can then monitor my average daily use and scale that up to monthly and annual projections. It's like a lot money saving activity this - on one hand you could call it obsessive and sad, but on the other hand it's about optimising something to the nth degree and you might as well enjoy that process.Happy chappy0

Another weekly reader/spreedsheet saddo here.
I even bought myself an Electrisave monitor, so I can see what power I'm using instantaneously. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Blimey Pen..cough..the price...will wait for Christmas.
Roughly my electricity is divided..Fridge/freezer....computer/printer.....television....and cooking/lights.Winter time the central heating pump. Plus washing machine. A lot is/can done on E7 and if I change Internet Service Provider could probably do that in E7 hours too.... plus the free machines at the library.
And of course cut back on the TV.
A spreadsheet certainly brings it to attention straightaway.
Might try it, Tom, with general shopping but might have to ignore some things , like beer.0 -
wats an extropalation0

extrapolating data into the future based on past data.
eg: if you use 10 units in 3 days then you'd expect to have used 20 units by day 6.Might try it, Tom, with general shopping but might have to ignore some things , like beer.Happy chappy0 -
...disgraceful......................
..................all that much on food. :=))0 -
I've been recording my meter readings on the last day of the month for years.
One huge advantage is that, when you come to do the comparison sites, you've got actual annual usage figures to put in.
You get results that can only be wide of the mark, or even wider than that, if you respond to the 'how much do you pay per month' question with your current DD figures. You've only got to look at the current under- or over-payment situation at the date of your latest bills to know that this can only be arbitrary. And yet any number of people switch purely on this basis.
To anyone who has been recording, or is now starting to record, it's a very good idea and is not a bit sad in any way!!
