Tesco :(

I am so angry with Teso's  i went shopping on monday for fruit and veg for my son as I get healthy start vouchers for him got to the till and the cashier told me she could only accept 1 i asked her to check the recipet which she did although from her attitude you could see she clearly didnt want to, she added it up and then told me she would allow me to use 2 but i was 'Lucky' she was allowing this.
I had already added the value of the fruit and veg while shopping so i knew what i had to spend etc so knew it was £11 odd which would entitle me to use 3 but she still wouldnt accept it.
She was really rude and arrogant towards me which was really embarrasing as there was a huge queue behind me. So i gave in as i could hear the other customers moaning.

I trippled checked my receipt and the fruit and veg came to £11.14, what kind of people are tesco employin?? how can they employ people to work with money if they can not even add up.

OK rant over lol

Its annoying and perhaps just a letter to the manager will get you a voucher and her a slap on the wrist to not be so rude but theres nothing you can really do tbh.

Just annoying when cashiers make up their mind on something without much prior thought and no room to argue your case even if they are in the wrong
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

This used to happen to me all the time (don't get them anymore). Its embarrassing standing there while they go through the receipt, and make you feel like you are ripping them off.
Next time take your receipt and the other vouchers to Customer Service, and they should take the vouchers and give you your money back. And hopefully she will get a telling off.

You should stand your ground and tell her to call for a superviser who may have better mathematical skills than she seems to have.
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.

Why didn't you ask to see a Supervisor?

tbh it didnt cross my mind to ask to see a supervisor, i was trying to pack my stuff, keep my 3yr old from running off and screaming while trying to sort it out with the cashier, if i didnt have my son and there was not such a huge queue then i probaby would have.

    Thanks for the replies all

I work at Tesco, and if you had come through my till, then I would have accepted them.

The rules surrounding them is very confusing, and more often than not, we accept them, just to avoid a customer kicking off.

The thing is, sit on the other side, and those vouchers are so shockingly abused, and what a lot of people dont realise is that we are checked ( so that we are only accepting them for correct purchases) I had a woman come to my till with about 6 bottles of vodka, a load of sweets/crisps etc, and then hand me a huge pile of healthy starts...not impressed when I refused!

take the reciept with you next time you shop, and speak to a customer services person, they will see you sorted

Thanks for the reply i understand where you are coming from and if i had gone up and tried to use them on stuff like alcohol etc then i would expect them to refuse them but had the cashier added the fruit and veg propperly there would not had been a problem which is my point. I was made to feel like a 'fool' in a way as i told her i had added them and asked her to double check but she insisted that she added them and made it sound as if i couldnt have added them up correctly.

I work for Asda and can confirm that you can use as many Healthy Start vouchers as you like, this of course assumes that you have purchased the correct items covered and that the vouchers are within date.
I sometimes get customers come to me at the service desk to redeem their vouchers, they have either forgotten to use them at the till or are disputing the amount of vouchers they have been allowed to redeem. I normally get a calculator out to help show the customer how much they have spent on the correct items if they have purchased a lot.
It can get confusing if the customer has purchased a lot of shopping and the relevant items are dotted here and there all through the till receipt. I quite often suggest to my customers to make things easier for us all to put all the relevant items up first and ask the checkout operator to do a total, then both parties can see quite easily the total amount spent and how many vouchers to use.
The OP should go to the service desk next time she is in the store, explain what happened and show the receipt and the voucher she was unable to use and see if they will return her money in exchange for the voucher. Good luck

It's years since I worked as a supervisor on checkouts in Tesco and echo the words of threemuttleys .Cashiers have a difficult job sorting out several things and other customers who will fiddle anything:(
That said you should have had better treatment and offering your reciept at customer services on your next visit should put it right.
Just a thought I have no experience of the voucher in question but if it's a minimum spend thing if it's possible to put all the eligible products on the belt first and suggesting a subtotal would make it very clear to the cashier.I appreciate shopping with littlies is difficult :)
