Does anyone know Bradford?

Options
Hi

I've seen a bargain house in the Holme Wood area of Bradford (East) but we've only just started looking in that area (given up looking in Leeds - too expensive!) and I don't know it very well. Someone told us it was rough but that was just one person.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

My Dad lives on the outskirts of Bradford (BD postcode but Leeds telehone number?!) my experience of Bradford is avoid at all costs sorry. If its a 'bargain' that tells its own story as the decent areas in West Yorkshire are v. expensive.

Seconded! There are some really horrible areas of Bradford. Head a bit more north and you might be OK, but for goodness sakes avoid Keighley like the plague! More towards Halifax is also nicer (there are some really lovely villages round there). Do you intend to commute to Leeds?

thanks, I'm not keen on Bradford but you get so much more for your money!! i would be commuting to leeds to looking at proximity to train stations, bus routes etc. anywhere half decent in Leeds costs twice as much, but thats definately where i'd rather be! will have a drive round at the weekend and have a look! thanks!

I don't know the Bradford suburbs but if you're commuting to Leeds, you could look at the small towns along the Leeds-Skipton railway line. Bingley is quite nice, and probably reasonable compared to Leeds.

I commute to Leeds from Barnsley. Yes, it is true, there are some very nasty areas of Barnsley, however there are very nasty areas of Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, Wakefield and anywhere else as well.

There is a train station at Darton that goes straight to Leeds, although it does take the slow route through Castleford and costs about £6 a day (you could probably get it cheaper with a weekly/monthly pass though of course).

£150k buys you a three bed detached quite easily.

Alternatively, look at Wakefield. The train fare is only about £3 I think from the city centre.

If i were to live in Bradford it would have to be in the nicer areas to the north of the city. But personally i'd avoid it.

A set of opinions on that city from people on another forum i frequent recently will give you a feel of the city:

If the main reason is commuting to Leeds but not overpaying then simply follow the towns bordering M1 or the main train lines into leeds in your search. A lot of nicer areas to the north of Leeds while very nice are a bit pricey.

A suggestion i would throw in for a couple of towns that are not over priced but are still nice towns are Horbury or Ossett. About 20 mins away from leeds according to Google earth (id add another 10-20 mins to that at peak times knowing the route myself)

Hi there! We’ve had to remove your signature. It was so good we removed it because we cannot think of one so good as you had and need to protect others from seeing such a great signature.

I live in Bradford and if I had the money and a job elsewhere I would move. It is a total dump with a huge crater in the middle of town (westfield shopping development which has been put on hold for the foreseeable future) We also have very few shops and infact we do most of our shopping in Leeds, Huddersfield and Halifax.

Holmewood is a council estate, the outskirts of it are not too bad but the center of the estate is terrrible, my other half lived on the estate for 11 years and I lived on and off on holmewood for 18 months with him and his parents until we moved into our own house.

    Avoid at all costs
