I would expect a new TV to be new and unopened. If you are not happy about it ,take it back.Someone else obviously has. What happens to it after you have returned it is not your concern.

No shop tells you if the item has been returned by a previous customer!

Do you live a very sheltered life?!

Some shops do... the one I work in does.
Exactly, that's good customer service. But what do you expect them to do with returned items, bin them?

It depends on the item and why it's returned. If it's been returned because the customer just doesn't want it, and it's NOT faulty, we'll take it back, minus a minimum of 10% of the original price. This is because when we resell it, that's how much we knock off the sale price.

If it's returned as faulty, it gets sent back to the manufacturer for us to get a refund from them, or to be repaired. Occasionally, if the circumstances mean that the customer gets a replacement item, the repaired one is sold.

For things like headphones, due to hygiene, they get stripped down for parts, such as the copper cabling, and sold.

Any items that are opened are marked as such with a reduced ticket, the same for used and repaired.

Of course, some customers open radios to look at them, even though they shouldn't, but I'm not allowed to charge them for that :(.
