Closing an account with 02 and requesting a PAC code
Can anyone clarify this for me. I just contacted 02 to close my rolling 30 day contract and to request a PAC code.
02 say that once my new provider notifies them that my number is now active, my 30 day period of notice with 02 commences ?
So in effect I will still be paying for one months notice on my old 02 account at the time my new contract starts.
They said I cannot cancel my account and obtain a PAC code at the same time, because the PAC code ( if used ) starts the cancellation process rolling.
Can someone clarify this, because I'm sure the 02 operater even knew what they were talking about ?

Think o2 are right.
Say you start 30 day contract 1st April, you would need to give notice on 30th March to avoid paying extra month.
Hence you have to be wary of 30 day contracts as getting out of them means paying an extra month.0 -
I requested my PAC code today, so assumed that would also be the point I gave them 30 days notice. But that appears not to be the case.
My contract runs from the 14th of each month.0 -
Then its odd, maybe its confusion in their wording over the phone.
Your 30 day notice will starts from the point you request the PAC code, so you would need to pay up to 13th May (plus or minus a day) if you rolling contract cycle is 14th of each month.
Phone them up and clarify what they are saying.
Basically if you ask PAC code today, I would expect you to be paying up to 13th of May and your best time to use the PAC code would be around 5th May (allowing for porting from o2 to other network 2 to 5 days)0 -

The contract termination notice period is taken to commence on the date of issue of the PAC.0 -

That sounds more reasonable.
So if my PAC code is sent to me today via text , then my notice period will also start today.

You will have to chase them on that.
Sometimes they give out the PAC code over the phone and then send it in the post, sometimes they only do one or other.
Recently requested PAC code from O2 for a pay and go number and was given it over the phone. Also I gave them my address details and he said I should expect a letter with the PAC code - that letter never arrived. Luckily the PAC I got verbally was not wrong and it worked out ok when porting to another network. Would have preferred a text message or letter in post to confirm it.
T-mobile on other hand sent me a PAC code in a text message on another port I did.0 -
02 claim they will text me the PAC code within the next 24 hours.

I rang O2 yesterday to get either a decent deal on the Desire or my PAC. I already had my eye on the Orange Panther 30 deal (£27.50 a month) and told them this. The agent repeatedly tried to talk me into staying with them at £35 a month for an equivalent deal. I pointed out that there was a difference of nearly £200 over the 2 years and that wasnt acceptable. I asked for my PAC and it arrived via text within 4 hoursThe Daily Mail

I have it now, but if I'd not contacted them back it would not have been sent through because it wasn't requested by the first person I spoke too.
I've been with 02 for years and have tried several times to get a better deal, but they're so tight ( or your face has to fit ) that it's very rare for them to beat the market. I've normally left it becasue to me a phone is a phone is a phone. I mainly use it to call people lol !
But recently I've gone a bit mad and decided to do the gadget thing just for the hell of it. I did make some mutterings to 02 but to no avail ( as I suspected ). Outcome ? another long term customer walks to Vodafone.
02 must know what they're doing, I dont question that for a minute, but they must be losing a large customer base with there strict no give deals ?0 -

I totally agree with you - they made no attempt to even come close to the Orange deal I quoted them - I was quite prepared to pay a little extra and stay with them. Up until last year I had a 10% loyalty discount in place with them but that too disappearedThe Daily Mail
