We had the weirdest thing happen last summer !
I filled my car up and parked up for the night ,in the morning the petrol flap was open but my lockable cap was still locked BUT the petrol tank was totally ( just about) empty .I contacted the police and they said they probably had a key ,but why did they lock it again ?
There was no damage to the fuel line and no petrol on the floor ??!?!
Insert Key unlock - remove fuel - then what do you do. You dont want to leave fingerprints but you want your key back. holding key (still inside cap reinsert cap lockand pull key out.'
Its either that or drive off with cap still on key - need a pretty big pocket to do that0 -

This has put me off filling to the brim again. Imagine putting £60 in then having it stolen that night! :eek:0

As a general rule;
Put what you need in on Friday to get you to next Friday.
For the folks that say you will suck all the crap out of the tank if you do that? well I should have been stranded every week since the 60's.
Why would anyone want to carry an extra 50 ltr, ie, Kilograms weoight of fuel around if they don't intend using it.
If you are nervous, put a half gallon can in the boot.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I used to fill up our tank till I realised I was carrying extra weight around too.
OP, don't fix the cap just yet, they might come back. Just fill up a tenner at a time so there's less to steal.
Consider setting up a camcorder to watch the car overnight.
It's a horrible thing to happen so soon after the excitement of passing your test and getting the car.:mad:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I can imagine this sort of crime will only increase with the price of fuel.
Regards legalities I think all you need is a secure cap that seals correctly. The flap itself could be binned.0 -
Not brimming the tank makes it more difficult to calculate your fuel economy though.0

I don't always brim the tank. Just when I know that I'm going to be making some long journeys within the week etc.0

But brimming it actually makes a difference to the economy,ie, it suffers. Brimming it merely tells you how bad,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
