Last night, someone jimmied open my petrol flap (that covers the actual cap that you open to fill up the car) and siphoned off my petrol
Have temporarilly stuck the flap shut with tape. My dad, who I would normally ask about car stuff, is away so just wondering how easy it is to get a replacement - a city rover by the way.
Also, can you get fined for this? Its not flapping about or anything as have stuck it down.
Only had it two weeks and only passed my test two weeks ago
Am going to get a lockable filler cap thing as well.

I though modern cars had ant syphon caps Mind rovers wernt modern hence why they wnet bust no new designs just rehashes.
You can get lockable flaps but you'll need to change the filler neck to get the proper catches. Not a easy job.0 -
well i had no petrol this morn and there are chisel type marks in the flap, plus the sprung piece of metal is completely bent where its obviously been jimmied. Lockable cap seems not to be a prob, googling a new flap however suggests expensive and not, as you note, an easy job0

Oh bad luck, it's terrible that people are stealing fuel like this.
I think if you have your cap flap duct taped down, you should be OK from a cop stopping you persepctive. Really try to get it fixed as soonas you can. Have you considered getting a aprt from a scrapyard?Hoping this year is better than the last.0 -
we've registered with one of those spare parts sites that has loads of suppliers on so hoping we'll get lucky0

We had the weirdest thing happen last summer !
I filled my car up and parked up for the night ,in the morning the petrol flap was open but my lockable cap was still locked BUT the petrol tank was totally ( just about) empty .I contacted the police and they said they probably had a key ,but why did they lock it again ?
There was no damage to the fuel line and no petrol on the floor ??!?!0 -
that sounds like a magic petrol robbery to me lol0

I didn't think anyone bothered stealing fuel like this anymore.
The technique I've heard of being used is to simply slice the petrol pipe near the tank and catch it in a sump can. Someone went down the whole road doing this near me a while back, road was shut for the morning while the fire services mopped up:eek:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I know! Its so weird0
