I've always compared deals and to me, no other provider was promising £200 credit on the account. She said stick it out for a year, get the £200 credit and you can leave if you don't like it after that.

Unlike some people I'm always willing to listen what some sales people have to say and in this case what she could offer direct to the customer was bigger than the deal online. She clearly went through everything but I came on here to gauge if this deal was as good as I thought it was.

My usage is 2004 KWh for Electricity and 6648 KWh for Gas.

No quote was coming close to £478 for a year for both fuels, British Gas was around £500. And NPower's usual discount made it £584.

I thought you said she said it was taken off the monthy direct debits?

She said the credit is now applied monthly rather than after 12 months and that my Direct Debits will be set up at £41 a month rather than my existing £56.

    Which is it?

In my region Npowers standard tariff comes out at £584 (same as it would for you)

Npowers Sign online 18 comes out at £424 so why not switch to that and have cheaper direct debits throughout the year instead of waiting 13 months to get the extra discount?

They are taking £41 a month, thats what I signed for to be set up as a Direct Debit. My current payment to British Gas is £56. She said that takes into account the £200 credit and it'll rise by £8 next year.

Re-reading the TOS, they are crediting the amount each month. It doesn't appear clear on first reading.

But SOL18 would still be cheaper...

Personally I believe Npower to probably offer the worst customer service in the industry, but don't take my word for it see if you can find out who has the most complaints made about them, who disconnects more customers than anyone else and was criticised by Ofgem as having the most to do to reach best practice standards / other suppliers standards etc. (the latter can certainly be found via Google)

I don't think British Gas are great on service either but as others have suggested try the comparison sites for your area & needs before it's too late to change your mind.
  • yup, they're pretty dreadful,. Just spent 20 minutes on hold, waiting for someone to tell me again that they weren't giving back a £200 dual fuel discount...yet my memory tells me otherwise...anyone else recall this or is time to move into the funny farm! I also seem to recall having arguments with numerous customer disservice staff about the bailiffs coming round to pick up the £75 odd quid I didn't owe...(7 months to realise they'd had this money the previous year in DD overpayments - rubbish service but they do excel in cocking up their own stuff...)
    Grrr.

Couldn't agree more. I've switched to them twice (more fool me!) and both times they've got almost every detail wrong, have to phone 0845 type numbers to get it corrected (no alternative nos were available), on hold for ages each time or sent round and round in IVR hell before finally getting cut off 25 minutes later... need I go on...
    Friendly greeting!
