    Elfen, you're not a bad person! Maybe someone else would feel sympathy for him but after the hurt he's caused you, I can't help but feel he deserves tears. I'm sorry if that sounds horrible, maybe it is, but due to personal stuff in the past of people I love, my irrational hatred of alcoholics rates slightly below my irrational hatred of Margaret Thatcher (ie, a long way up the scale). I'm probably just making things worse here but I think this is the best thing you've ever done.

    Elfen, it is the best for both of you. It will hurt because though you don't love him, you still care about him. Which is ok. It shows you have empathy and compassion.

    You don't love him and you told him you don't love him.
    This doesn't make you a bad person.

    It makes you an honest person and a brave person, someone who is prepared to feel a bit bad now for the benefit of both of you. It's hard but you know it's right.

    You might not feel proud of yourself at the moment, but hopefully you won't mind if I do.
