Mercenary,
Based on previous experience (I used to be with BG then Yorkshire Electricity then Npower then Powergen and now I'm moving to EDF!!! I am a prime example of customer fidelity :rotfl: ) they cancel the direct debit once the final bill is coming through. Never had any problem with any of the above I must say (must be lucky I suppose!!)0 -
I'd have thought it always makes sense to cancel a DD after the final payment has been taken.0

JudyLugg wrote:Well, exactly how do they work these savings out? I have given number of Kwh used (and price paid, in two different transactions) to THREE different Comparison Sites and, unfortunately, have been given a variety of different
answers. For example - one tells me that Grittish Bass will save me £123 with duel fuel and another, given exactly the same information tells me that Grittish Bass will save me £93.Another thought, if you tell the Comparison Site how much you have PAID (as opposed to amount of fuel used) in the last year, how can they possibly make a comparison, unless they take into account all the discounts and percentage on top of percentage increases? (This is a bit garbled, but I think you get the gist). Personally, I can't see it myself.0 -
I just want to bury my head in the sand (but i'm trying not to!).
All the comparison sites are telling me to change to Atlantic and that i'll save £426. That either means I was being ripped off big style or this is a con.
Decisions, decisions and will I have to change again in a few months if anything else changes?January budget
Nothing left!0 -
Thanks for the replies to my original asking about how these sites are calculating the so-called savings.
I saw the comment about burying your head in the sand - you and me both.
The whole caboodle is a complete rip off from start to finish and here we all are, actually not being able to do anthing about it.
Oh for the days when there was just the old Electricity/Gas Boards!
Mind you it is not just the utilities is it? It's everything we have to deal with including banks, government departments - literally everything. What a life.
Incidentally, it wouild be interesting to find out what they are paying for gas/electricity on the continent. Presumably, theirs have gone up, but is it to the same extent as oursCharles J0 -

Just for my interest (and peace of mind :undecided ) , I re-did my quotes on Energyhelpline and on UKPower and since Ebico have announced their new prices they have dropped from 1st place on my previous recommendations to waaaaaay down the list now.
Reassuringly, Atlantic still shows as being the top one for me ....even after getting headaches with calculating the different rates found on the main sites.
Well I reckon it's worth a shot for the projected savings and we can always switch again later on if necessary.0 -
Just done yet another search to find better energy supplier.
Needless to say Ebico has slipped well down the ratings.
But it`s that old favourite again that everyone seems to be switching to that comes up top of the pops.
Yes,you`ve guessed it`s Atlantic Internet.
One thing I did notice when I printed of the tariff was
"prices as from 1st May 2006".
I would be quite willing to bet within 2 months after they`ve conned everyone into switching they the put their prices up.
Before Ebico announced their 1/9/06 rise I did my sums by adding 30% to their gas and 25% to their CURRENT leccy prices.
I then calculated the very latest Pgen (whom I`m with)and there was £20 difference in favour of Ebico.
Now that I have their correct prices, and recalculated, there is no difference at all.
So reading between the lines, with the world and his wife now being conned into switching to Atlantic,I`ll just stick with good old Pgen.0
