Hi first post, I know you will be kind. Thanks to everyone I have enjoyed soaking up all your knowledge. Thought it was my turn to share.;)
Ladies if you want layers in you hair and it is mid length or longer, don't go to the hairdresser do it yourself:eek: . I have been doing it for years. All you need to do is comb your hair into a tight ponytail so its on your forhead, secure with tight band. so you have a pony tail in front of your face (stay with me ladies). Take the hair between 2 fingers and slide down to bridge of nose if you have a fringe or what ever length you want shortest front piece to be . use sharpe scissors and cut. I usually do process twice incase i have missed any hair. It works because the further the hair has to come from the back the longer it will be. It will frame your face softly but stay longer at the back. Have a go it's amazing :T

Hi Knitwit, great tip!
I gave this a go a couple of times. Seemed to do a reasonable job, but my hair was quite thick and I'm a bit impatient - it was difficult to cut it level... I ended up with it looking a bit choppy and uneven. I think it'd be a lot easier and neater to have someone else on hand to do the actual cut - I couldn't tell very well in the mirror if it was straight.
I have to confess I went back to using a hairdressers, but may give it a go again sometime
Oh - just reread your first post and I think I see where I went wrong - I didn't have the pony tail in front of me, just behind like normal, so couldn't see properly! Doh.0 -
I will try anything once, and i had a go
- pretty good! Pleased with result but my hair is long and i took about 2 inches off - think i will actually go a bit shorter soon
- thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also like DIY, LOL
in fact i don't like to go to hairdresser. it's a good post for me to know sth useful0 -
I have really long hair (about waist length am growing) and my basic 'diy cut' involves putting lots of pony bands in it..(base hair line pony tail) about every few inches starting at the base and going down (when wet) then cutting the end off...
Works fine for me but not as good as hair dresser but can't afford hair dresser. Suppose if I cut more off more split ends would come off but takes minutesand is cheaper than hair dresser..
Also cut fringe in method similar to above...

I have seen this method done by a hairdresser on TV
I can't remember which one it was now, might have been Lee Stafford
He put the ponytail to one side of the forehead to create a graduated long fringe too
looked great!
My hair isn't quite long enough to try this yet0
