How often do you clean your deep fat fryer?

Options
Im ashamed to say I've finally got round to the dreaded task of cleaning out the deep fat fryer.

I couldn't even tell you how long it is since its been done and Im very ashamed.

The cupboard it is kept in also needed a good clean as globules of fat had attached themselves to the cupboard floor.

Any how the deed is done with the promise to myself that next time I wont leave it so long hence I pose the question.........how often does every one else clean theirs out??

  • I clean it at least a fortnight after DH starts complaining that it needs done! I don't eat chips as often as he does, so if he wants it done as soon as his chips start to suffer, he can do it himself.
Our old fryer had a lift-out bowl that could be cleaned fairly easily, and I'm finding it hard to adjust to a cheap nasty fryer which can't be cleaned without making a right old mess, since they advise against submersing the whole machine in water! Why do they even make them with fixed insides?

Once a month for us - drain oil and put all bits that can be dishwashered (bowl, basket, Lid) into dishwasher. Wipedown remaining bits with soapy water and reassemble + new oil when dry! If you leave it longer the oil gets lacquered or should I say Knackered and becomes more dificult to clean!!!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!

Deep Fat Fryer??? Never had one, think of the poor arteries clogged...

I tend to do oven chips when we have them and cook other things at the same time...

Where have all the food police come from?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with fried food - provided you eat it in moderation as part of a diet that balanced, overall.

Um, yeah... the OP has asked a perfectly reasonable question. How on Earth does "Ew! Fried food is gross!" help?

I have no advice, however, as I don't own a fryer. I WANT one, though, and I was hoping to learn about them from this thread.

I agree nothing wrong with deep fried food. I personally wouldn't have a deep fat fryer in the house. More out of fear than anything else. When I was a bit younger I'd get the munchies after a night out on the beer. And I mean a serious munchie attack!! Fortunately I've done nothing more serious than burn a sauce/frying pan. Dread to think what I could have done with a chip pan and a bag of spuds.

Now I always have sandwich material available in the fridge and don't tend to get as drunk nowadays.

    yours
