You don't need to tax it - just MOT it. (what kind of car is it?)

Lot of people would buy it now with enough MOT left to get home in it though - so it might be worth just selling before it expires.

Really with its easy access for thieves and big dents? its a Peugeot 106 1.1 R reg

Sell it ASAP with the remaining MOT and it'll go - people will buy anything that is road legal, believe me. If using it as a tool for work you just don't keep anything valuable in it and put a stoplock on and it'll stay put :rotfl:

I'm currently looking at the <£500 bracket myself at the moment.

Quick related query, if the car is a good runner with good mileage but 12 years old dented/scratched/unaesthetically pleasing that it couldnt be sold on, is there an alternative to it being scrapped?
Sell it someone who doesn't care. I bought my current car with dents and keying all round.
    Happy chappy

Can get a Fiat Panda 1.1 for £5995 from Arnold Clark without scrappage.

Leasing makes more financial sense for a business though.

Not just Arnold Clark, it is a nationwide Fiat offer, strange how they can sell them for that now the Scrappage Scheme has ended.

Ah fair enough, being in Scotland any paper (including local ones) has pretty much only Arnold Clark adverts in it :rotfl::rotfl:.

Yes, it is strange, isn't it? ;)

Technically they'll tell you it is the same offer- manufacture offing £1k off just no government £1K. ;)

Just collected my brand new Panda today and it is a lovely city car. They are much much more reliable than Puntos and look different so would stand out - good for business.

Indeed I like the Panda. Actually the old Punto is the one that hurts Fiat- the newer stuff seems a lot better screwed together- still nigglely faults occasionally, but as good as a lot of other mainstream manufacturers some people wouldn't question about reliability issues!

ECU's do not go 'on their way out'; they either work or they don't. Who says it's 'on its way out' and with what evidence?
Personally I've always run old cars and maintain them myself which saves a fortune and makes them reliable. If you have to pay for repairs then an older car is not always the most economic but I wouldn't call a 2002 car a 'banger'; it's way newer than anything I have owned in my entire life (54 years) !

There is a fault with the ECU where the fan comes on. OK so maybe its not on its way out but there is a fault.

Also, theres a largish oil leak. £££ to fix.

    Heater matrix is also leaking.

    All from reliable fiat dealer.
  • No need to buy a new ecu, one from a scrapyard will do for what the car is worth. If you have an old banger my advice would be to run it into the ground and get your moneys worth.Obviously keeping road worthy goes without saying.

If you really want a new car, was talking to a mate who is a car salesman today and he told me with the scrappage scheme they can do some entry level cars(Suzuki something or other) for £5.5k new.

    Entry level will do me...

Lease something like a Hyundai i10 for very little and put it through the business.

Any recommendations for where to lease from?

Does leasing make sense for such a low priced car? Circa £200 from where I looked for a £8,300 i10. Thus you pay £7600 in 3 years and have nothing at the end. Doesn't seem a good deal to me? Even going through a business wouldn't be the best deal.
