But 23.6% voted Lib Dem, and this plus 29% equals 52.6%. A clear majority of votes.

and in a pr situation would massively outweigh the tories in a coalition.

No more undemocratic than a minority Tory government elected by only 36% of voters.
to make it worse it's probably only just over 20% of voters as the voting turnout was only 65%ish...

it's not been a great election for the tories - especially after having a guy like Brown to fight against and the worst recession since world war 2. they didn't do too well.

And that's all that matters really isn't it? That the Tories don't get in?

Why wasn't there this much fuss in 1997? The Labour:Conservative seat ratio was around 5:2, yet the vote ratio was 3:2, wouldn't really have been much of a landslide using PR would it?

Its probably the best outcome for the Tories if they look at it from a selfish point. A Lib/ Lab rainbow pact as they call it will not be stable especially in a few months when they have to announce all those cuts they have to make. The fail will probably fail within a year. The public will think PR is a disaster and the Tories will romp home

In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

i'm sure it is - don't forget to give up your day job Mr Tory Spinster...

why does it bother you so much that people criticise the conservatives... is the below untrue?

no you're quite right. some did make a fuss but more people should have made a fuss. they were free to do so. however if you look at the lib dem share in that the right probably realised that ultimately pr wouldn't have helped them given the natural affinities of the parties (and lib dem / labour voters).

Oh woe! And thrice woe! Bullingdon Boy Dave Cameron has just had to phone around and cancel the party he had arranged at No.10 on Friday night with the rest of the Bullingdon club.
