Don't most of the EU countries have PR?
It doesn't appear to have produced all the evils we have been promised if we embrace it.The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Tory/LibDem pact, senior LidDem person say it is the only show in town.
Oh goodness, well, this could be fun. I can't wait to watch it.I think to have a referendum on this business in the future is certainly the way to go: a lot of people want it. nd we might get this sort of buzz more often. who knows, maybe it will engage more people, enough people certainly want i to merit the question being put to us.
I now have the Carpenters as an ear worm though.:mad:0 -

It looks that way. Fact is, the numbers do not stack up and Labour would not tolerate it. Lord Falkener conceding this as I type.
Clegg has played his FUBAR situation as well as could be expected as the Brown resignation has leveraged the Tories into conceding some sort of voting reform.
AV is not my preferred option, but a good thing would be the removal of the need to vote tactically in 99% of case. By ranking preference, the second preference votes would then be given to another candidate who had gained more votes once the first preference candidate had been eliminated. This is used in the London Mayoral Election.
Example: Parties A, B and C.
First round: Party A: 40%, Party B: 35%, Party C: 25% Party C eliminated.
Second round: The second preference votes from Party C would reallocated until another party had over 50%. So if Party C were a no hope party, their supporters could vote for their first preference with their conscience, then have an "insurance" option. However, there is no need to give extra preferences.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -
