Well on the face of it it says that 75% of the population are not interested enough in football to watch (OK an over simplification) which sound like a vast majority to me

I doubt my 3 month old daughter will be interested...

But most blokes (and women) I know will watch, at least, every England game.

Sticking to the original post.......I object to BT ringing me trying to sell me services when I've chosen to be ex directory. Their sales staff don't understand my point when I tell them that I don't want phone calls from them.

What is the point in opting out if they are just going to ignore you then? I'd definitely reply making sure they understand your prefrence this time. Out of interest, how exactly do they (whoever 'they' are) work out how many people watched the world cup final last time? It's not like everyone is sitting on their own watching it. People often watch it in groups, in pubs, at work etc so how exactly do they have any idea how many people are watching?

Really? I would say that around a million people a week go to see football games, not to mention the millions more that watch games at home or in pubs around the country each week.

Then you've got the millions that don't get to watch the games but watch/record MOTD.

Football is Englands number 1 sport, and you think the vast majority of people don't have the slightest interest in it?? Yet it generates 10's of millions of £'s of revenue in this country........who do you think pays to watch the games, buys the merchandise etc???

Football may well be England's number 1 sport - but only in terms of spectating and not participation!

Spectating is passive - people on couches drinking beer not people playing the game!

I loved the bit saying the Nation is gripped in World Cup Fever.
    In their dreams.
The vast majority of the population of this country do not have the slightest interest in football.

I'm gripped with world cup fever, if world cup fever means I shiver uncontrollably, feel really ill, sweat, and start to burn up whenever somebody mentions the damn thing.

I hate how every advert on tv seems to say, "because you LOVE the world cup, let us show you how much we ALSO love the world cup, because that'll make you love our products."

And I just think "**** off" and mute the TV until the program comes back on.

I know I'm not gripped, I don't even know when it's going to start. But I do know it's coming because the Supermarkets have started to fill their isles with loads of football related tut for the gullible to waste their money on.

Thought we'd moved on from whether the World Cup is gripping us or not?

What if everyone who is either "gripped" or "not" posted their view?

How about this for a good idea, if you want to duiscuss footbal then start another thread so those who are interested in it can go there to discuss and leave this thread to discuss the matter it was started for.

any chance of his name? I'm a Sunderland fan and will be able to tell you if he played for us.
If at first you don't succeed, maybe bomb disposal isn't the best career choice.
