I loved the bit saying the Nation is gripped in World Cup Fever.
    In their dreams.
The vast majority of the population of this country do not have the slightest interest in football.

Really? I would say that around a million people a week go to see football games, not to mention the millions more that watch games at home or in pubs around the country each week.

Then you've got the millions that don't get to watch the games but watch/record MOTD.

Football is Englands number 1 sport, and you think the vast majority of people don't have the slightest interest in it?? Yet it generates 10's of millions of £'s of revenue in this country........who do you think pays to watch the games, buys the merchandise etc???

World Cup Final viewing figures last time round were around 16.2 million in the UK. Which means the majority of people in this country didn't even bother watching it - let alone were "gripped" by it.

I can't see any evidence of the country being gripped by World Cup fever at present. Perhaps because there are other, more important issues gripping our imaginations right now.....?

That's not really an accurate reflection now is it!! Could there be a reason why only a quarter of the population watched the last World Cup Final??.....Maybe it was because England weren't in it!!

Are you trying to tell me that if England were to reach the World Cup Final this year, you believe the viewing figures would be the same? Very doubtful, in fact, I would expect that figure to double, at least! Hardly backs up the point that the vast majority of the population don't have the slightest interest in football, a quarter of the population watched the last WCF when England weren't even involved!!

Just send them a reply stating:

Please could you explain this to those members of your staff that are incapable of understanding the meaning of my previous request. Note: A reply is not required due to my previous request."

No - you wouldn't ever hear me saying anything along those lines!

No - it's just you're completely missing the point.

The country is not "gripped by World Cup Fever". It's very, very, very far from it!

To use it as a margeting excuse is not only lame but also inaccurate.

If (and it's a very big IF) England were to do slightly better than anticipated in the World Cup this year (ie. not get knocked into touch by about the second round or so) then perhaps one could argue that it was an area of general interest to the public - but at the moment, sorry, no one gives a stuff. We're far more bothered about the more important issues of the day (and rightly so).

Actually, I think your missing the point! I've made no refernce to World Cup fever, my argument is in relation to the comment:

"The vast majority of the population of this country do not have the slightest interest in football."

The comment simply doesn't stand up.
