Welcome back!!
How are things? I was actually thinking of you the other day (mainly because I had a dream about iceskating! :rotfl:)0 -
Hello!
Well life has been plodding along for the last few months.
Good:-
Made another £200 OPs.
Weight loss has been non existant for a couple of months but as of yesterday seems to have restarted! :j
Skating going well still loving it!
Bad:-
There are repairs to my flat (communal -split between the owners) needing to be urgently done - ~£1700 each. I really hope my insurance will cover this and hope it hasn't affected our roof too or that amount will rise!
Mortgage OPs will have to stop soon. My standing order has been reduced to £10 / month as I can't stand to reduce it to nothing but that may well have to happen as of the beginning of August.
I'm in the process of being made redundant. In fact today I found out our project renewal funding application has now been further delayed. It was always a long shot anyway (would have started 3 months after my funding ends if we'd been successful) but now its not an option at all.
I have just over 2 months left to find another job and there is not much going here in my field at all. The only thing currently advertised is part time (3 days) and at a lower grade than my current job and so would only pay enough barely cover essential bills and only for 18 months. Mind you its better pay than FT minimum wage...
I've got a couple of weeks to decide whether to apply for it or not.
I have savings and will get a statutory redundancy payment so I'll be ok for a reasonable while but its horribly worrying.
Basically... I need to be on here again and making every penny in or out count. :undecided
Please tell me you all have had a more cheerful last couple of months? Its going to take me a long while to catch up with everyone's threads! :rotfl:Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!

Sorry to hear about your job, I've been through the process of possible being made redundant but luckily have survived both times
I would apply for the job, you don't have to take it, if its not for you, plus I think its always good to have a few practice interviewsMortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0

Ah hun, not a good few months. I thought you might come back and say you had broken both arms skating, or you had lost loads of weight and embarked on a steamy affair.
Don't get disheartened. You have learned so many skills through MSE over the years, that this will just be another challenge. Yes its hard, but there are options for you.
I find whatever problem i have, just keep posting and someone will say something to me that just helps everything click.
slowly fading another name i hadn't heard in a while. Sorry to hear you are out of work too. Wasn't that a teaching post?
These times are hard for all of us, but please hang in there. We are more fortunate than many.0 -

Yep, it was. Not being extended past the end of term. Just trying to stay positive that I'll find something else, bit hard going at the moment though. Hey ho, that's life I guess.Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

You've only done one year though haven't you? They might like it when you apply for jobs as you are still cheap but not needing all the training of an NQT.
Chin up. You can always try for exam marking or some tutoring or supply teaching. Enough to tide you over.
Good luck on the new job search.0 -
I agree with cha97michelle, you've both been here and know how to be frugal. I would recommend getting involved with some challenges, not only might it help take your mind of things but could save you some money helping in months to come.
There are some good food challenges and NSD's.
Taka I would go for the job too, it will be a good chance to dust of your interviewing skills if nothing else.
I'll keep my fingers crossed you both have some luck on the job front.Mortgage Free Date

Sorry to hear about your job too slowlyfading. It really sucks doesn't it? Good luck with your search.
Feeling a bit more upbeat this [STRIKE]morning[/STRIKE] afternoon. Another 2 jobs (both FT) have been advertised -- job A) lower grade (so £5.5k pa pay cut at best), 18 months funding
- job
same grade as now, 3 years funding, what I've been doing for the past decade is quite relevant and I'm convinced someone I know used to work for him or in colaboration with him but I can't remember who!
I've had another look at my finances too and worked out my absolute minimum amount needed to pay the essential bills / exist (with no life!) and my savings should last longer than I thought. I'm just glad I found this website - I've gone from being a tiny bit in debt when I joined (I became debt free the month after I joined) to having a decent amount of savings 4 years later.
A fair bit of that money was earmarked for flat renovations but needs must. I just hope the repairs about to start in my stair aren't worse that expected and my bathroom hangs on in there till I find another job! :rotfl:
I'm also just over 2 years ahead on my mortgage thanks to OPing!Mortgage free as of 12/08/20!
