Many thanks for that offer Donnie, and I would have gone for it, but meantime I found a Dell on the outlet site that I could afford and running Win7. So I've ordered that...only 2gb memory, so maybe not as good as the Toshiba, but it'll do me I think, plus the price of upgrading to W7 or sticking with Vista made me rethink. I just hope I've made the right choice (£366.84 with Vat and Del Grade 1 scratch and dent, 17.3" screen).
I have to say though that I would have no hesitation in ordering from Argos Clearance, as lots of folk seem to be satisfied.
And can I thank, once again, all the folk on here who've been so helpful. I feel almost guilty not buying the Toshiba now!

If you had needed the extra function of the Toshiba or the Medion, you most certainly would have bought one of them.

So, as you have written, the DELL should do you fine.
Installing a new OS is probably not the way most would like to greet a new laptop purchase.

But at least it would get rid of all the carp Dell and others insist on bundling with a new machine.

I know why they do it, but for me, I decide what runs.
    Move along, nothing to see.
