I am far too young to drive a jumped up delivery van or an old person estate car. In my mid-30's I will cling onto every scrap of youth I can

    :rotfl:

    I don't think I've ever seen anyone under 60 in a Honda!

I thought they came supplied with a flat cap... :D

the reason I am discounting what you describe as my ideal car is purely because style comes way before practicality for me. Shallow as it may be, I am far too young to drive a jumped up delivery van or an old person estate car. In my mid-30's I will cling onto every scrap of youth I can and if that means driving a car that never has passengers because it stinks then so be it :D

    .

That has to be one of the saddest posts that I have read on here for a long time. Apart from yourself, do you honestly think that anyone else gives a monkeys about your perceived image?

If that was the case, Alfa Romeo and aston martin would be bankrupt, and Rover would be ahead of toyota in sales ;)

So yes, people do care about what other people think. Why do you think fashion/hair magazines are so popular? You're the only person who can't your own hair, so it must be for other peoples' benefit :p

Have to say Im guilty too and Im no chicken. Id always had Golfs but last car I was persuaded that a Skoda Fabia was much better, cheaper and I shouldnt worry about badges. It was a lovely car but oh, when I saw another coming towards me Id pray the driver wasnt wearing a flat cap or sporting a grey perm - 9 times out of 10 they were :( After three years Ive gone back to VW and feel 10 years younger :)

OK then. Buy a car you like the look of and walk the dogs instead of driving them in it, then the stink will not be an issue.

Oh, and for those of you who have never seen anyone under 60 in a Honda, may I point out the number of young folk driving around in Civic Type Rs? Hardly a granny mobile.

I was just pointing out that the OP puts image as the critical issue when it comes to choice of car...............yet has a Honda and Honda by their own admission say the age of their average car owner is well over 50 years old!

Slight contradiction in terms when you are driving a pensioners' motor and then slating the image of other suggested cars?

Funny old world we are living in, I thought that cars were primarily a means of getting from A to B, not a fashion statement.

    Truly sad.;)

I don't mind that you find my views sad or even if you find me sad but I posted the thread to find an MSE solution to my query. My dogs do generally walk but the nearest beach is 10 miles away and obedience and agility classes are 15 miles away so it is not practical to walk to them.

It looks like I will go for a 4x4 of some sort and will now look for one that is quite econimical. Hatchbacks are too hard to keep clean and estates have old person connotations for me. No doblos or berlingos ever.

Thanks to those who posted useful suggestions, I'll get my car cleaned up and smell free before going round the garages looking for a new one and getting a trade in price.

" Old person connotations " you say that as if getting old is some kind of disease, if you are really lucky, you may well get old yourself, who knows.;)

a twin cab pick up with a cover for the rear load area would suit the bill perfectly, no dog hair or smell in the passenger area and an easily cleaned dog/load area in the back.
