ok guys, ive gone home and its the higher reading thats going round and round whilst ive been there.
So, here you go
4pm 1 16493
4 2750
t 19244
5.30pm 1 16497
4 2750
t 19247
I only had my TV on lol
I noticed it says on the meter
Rate 1 N
Rate 4 L
Whats the L and N?0 -
L and N stands for Low and Normal, i honestly believe your meter may be going to fast, is your property a house or flat? is it definatly your meter? I just took my electric meter readings to see how much we use and its averaging 5 units a day, we have gas and electric so its going to be different to your economy 7 however there is 2 of us and we work different hours so have a lot of hours where one of us are in and we use our electric fire rather than using the gas central heating normally.
4 units seems high in an hour and a half for just your tv and i presume fridge, freezer, phone and maybe an alarm pluged in

Hi lootuning 1 - I don't think that your Fin. Advisor gave you good advice that your Elect. costs would be £50 a month for an all electric, ECO 7 heated 2 bed. flat
Even tho' it's a new build with hopefully a high standard of insulation, you are like to be looking at at annual cost of at least £800 a year - £67 a month - and that will be on the best tariff you can find.
However you say you have not had the heating on, which explains why your Day use is higher than the Night use, but does not explain the massive daily consumption - Have a carefull look at your hotwater tank - This should have timer controls, including one to heat the water during the day - If this has been left on by the builders it will be burning expensive day rate power, and by the time the night rate kicks in it's thermostat will have switched it off.0 -
heres an update for you guys. I am doing a daily diary on ALL apartments in my block. Check this out:
Plot 1 1 couple 2 bed apartment above mine and identical to mine
08th May 6pm 09th May 5pm 10th May 6.30pm
1 6117 1 6122 1 6124
4 2983 4 2990 4 2993
t 9101 t 9112 t 9118
Plot 2 - live diagonal to my apartment. 2bed. identical to my apartment
1 6857 1 6874 1 6884
4 1579 4 1582 4 1584
t 8437 t 8457 t 8468
Plot 3 - This is the sales office. It is used everyday til late. Lights and heaters are on constantly. The use of phone, fax and kettle in there also.
1 9333 1 9336 1 9337
4 2451 4 2459 4 2462
t 11784 t 11795 t 11800
Now this is me,
1 16478 1 16495 1 16516
4 2746 4 2750 4 2752
t 19225 t 19246 t 19269
Now tell me, how have i used 23 units in 1 day when i was at work ALL day and didnt get in until 6.30 and the sales office opposite, was open all day, yet according to his readings, the day rate only staes he used 1 unit of electric throughout a hole day?????
I have noticed also that it is now 10.45 am and my meter is still running the night rate?????
Im going to be an expert on electric meters at this rate lol
It is my day off today so im using it to complain to everone i can think of lol i have also turned my boiler off to see if it is that causing the problem. I left my apartment at 10am this morning and the meters have read
1 16524
4 02753
t 19278
Which is odd considering ive been watching TV all morning, have had a shower, done my hair and boiled the kettle - the reading havent budged?????
So, now ive puled all the plugs out and turned boiler off. The only thing running in my apartment today is the fridge/freezer. Lets see what happens :mad:0 -
Is there a switch next to your meter* that allows you to switch off your supply? If there is, flick that and see if your electricity goes off.
* = It might not be right next to the meter, so you may need to follow a wire to find which switch is yours.0 -

Something is clearly wrong there.
You appear to have used 4kWh in just 90 minutes
Now there is an issue with these digital meters in that they don't show the fractions of a unit, so lets consider the best possible case scenario
16493 was actually 16493.999 and 16497 was actually 16497.000, that's still 3kWh. (or 2kWh per hour)
A typical tv only uses about 150W , and even if you had a huge plasma tv, they only use about 500w ... you appear to be using 4 x that amount.
Switch off the tv too and check the meter stops. If that fails, then turn off the main isolation switch and check the meter stops.
If it does then something (or someone) else is using your electricity - you need to find out what.
If the meter is still recording usage despite the main isolation switch being off, speak to your supplier as the meter is probably faulty."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
What have you been using to heat the place? I had a monster electricity bill because I, like you was scared to use storage heaters because of the horror stories I have read about them, so I used halogen heaters which ruined me. My original bills were a d/d of £41 a month in a 2 bed flat, but because of the heaters it went up to nearly £80.0

what do i use to heat the place? nothing. I put my tracky bottoms on, a hoodie and my dressing gown and just go to bed early lol
TV is only a 32" :-(
Im starting to really pull my hair out. No-one is listening to me now. The ombudsman said there is nothing they can do for 8 weeks. Ive just got to sit and wait to see what Atlantic say when they come out and check meter on the 28th :-( but im still going to monitor it and see whats going on. Im determined to get to the bottom of this but its not easy :-(0 -
