I bought an ex mobility Astra 1.6 (fully automatic). Its the best automatic I've ever driven, and I've driven a lot of autos.

It was 3 years old, had done less than 6,000 miles, and cost less than £6,000.

Whatever you do, don't get a Toyota Yaris. I hired one for a week last year... it was awful to drive.

I'm afraid none of those except the Swift will be deemed 'pretty' enough.. :-/

Any others that have proper automatic gearboxes?

But you had a Nissan Micra in your original list, that has to be amongst the ugliest cars ever made.;)

    How about an Audi A2?

I do like the look of the A2, but by the look of things they don't make them with an auto gearbox :-(

I dont know your mums age/physical condition, but make sure she tries out a lot of cars. Im not in my dotage but I could hardly drag myself out of the Audi A2 and the BMW3. They are terribly low and awkward.

Has she thought about a Golf Plus, my current car? Higher off the ground, lots of room, easy to get in and out?

If your mum could afford it, the Merc B class is like driving in your armchair...:D They are mean't to be better than the A class (think they learn't from that)

Only thing is if your mum does have mobility problems the B class is a bit high, my mum found it a bit high with her knee problem...

Yes... It was thesmallautocompany in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire

I can't post links at the moment I'm afraid.

My Astra, 2 years on, has done 59,000 miles and the only repairs it's needed are tyres, brake pads and it now needs an exhaust. I've found that living where I do with all the hills, the brakes on autos do need replacing more often than usual.
  • Another small auto I had once was a Suzuki WagonR. 1.3.

It didn't really have enough power or stamina for the mileage I was doing at the time (25k+ per year), but as a run around it was ideal.

My daughter had an automatic mini recently and loved it. Very expensive though.
