    Ninth Anniversary Combo Breaker
    edited 5 October 2011 at 8:31AM
I paid Mr Paul Lloyd £500 to build my van in January 2011. Then £10000 to buy a van and deposit on a £22000 conversion in November 2010.
He said he was going to build it in Dec 2010 he didn't came up with a load of excuses. He then said revert back to original build date Jan 2011. We agreed a price and design on the 5th January 2011 he said he was starting the build the next week. Two weeks later I find out he's not going to start it untill February 2011.
After a heated discussion I sent him an email out lining the only basis I was prepared to continue and if he didn't agree then I wanted a full refund. He would not give me this in writing so another bust upwith him on the phone. He would not give me a full refund but said he would build a race van and once sold would pay me everything back. I have this in an email of the 25th Jan 2011. Upto date this has not happened to the best of knowledge as he wont answer my two recorded delivery letters.
Once he had my money he would not answer phone calls or emails and the only way I could get a responce was to threaten him with Trading Standards and Court action.
He sent an email to me on the 2nd April 2011 saying we cancelled the van when he told us the van he bought he was not happy with, but didn't say when this was. If he had said this what was he going to use in Dec, January and finally to build the race van to sell. He also stated in this email once the van was sold that he would only give us a percentage of our money back. Yet in an email on the 25th January 2011 he said full refund.
Anyone thinking of having a van conversion PLEASEEEEE !!!!!!!!! DONT GO WITH IN A MILLION MILES OF MR PAUL LLOYD AND RACE PASSION.
We are now looking at taking him to Court but this will have to go to Crown Court because of the amount and can cost a lot of money.
I know of Liz Morton and another person who is also taking legal advice.

I have a thread on mse about this company.

Today I have had confirmation that Judgement has been given to me against the above who is holding £10500 of my money.
Two weeks ago he sent me an email stating he would be contacting my Solicitor to resolve this matter.
    GUESS WHAT ???? He hasn't.
He asked the court for extra time to put in a defence
GUESS WHAT???? He didn't contest the case.
To my knowledge he has now Three CCJ'S. One for Liz Mortons bad build and two for refusing to refund customers deposits and there's more cases pending.
He may build the most fantastic vans but can you take the chance he won't do this to you ??????

I think this says everything about the above's business practices...........

On my thread on mse regarding the above person and Race Passion. One of their satisfied customers has posted about their Court action and very bad experience.

I have today been in touch with Vdub Passion and have resolved the issues above. Some statements were written in the heat of the moment and they are trying to rectify the situation.

I haven't contributed but have been following the thread with some interest for many months.

Who are you exactly in all this?
Don't grow up. Its a trap!

Right GBW493N I'm going to make one more comment and then I'm giving up.

Your earlier comment, which I quoted in my post #74 completely contradicts what you have just written in your post #76. In the #74 quote you said they are trying to rectify the situation and in #76 you say they aren't helping at all!

    My brain hurts now.

I'm interested because I'll be in the market for a camper in the next couple of years and had considered a van conversion.

But you wrote the post I quoted TONIGHT! That's why I looked at it as it was an update to a thread I'd been following.

Aarrgggghhhh! Definately going now - totally confused.

  • Hi all, Now that i have judgement for my court case against Paul lloyd I will share with you all the nightmare that we have endured.
Our story begins on the 15th June 2010 (yes 2 years and counting)
We visited Paul Lloyd and agreed a price of £11000 and a 6 week build for converting our panel van.
21st June we delivered the van and paid £5500 (half) and agreed to £800 of extras.
6th September we were told van was nearly finished and then paid an additional £2000
14th September (12 weeks late) we collected the van and paid £4000. We still owed £300 but as they did not have the awning sides we were told to keep the money until the awning sides arrived (we were told awning company had sent wrong size)
18th September we took the van away for a weekend. We had noticed many small things that were below the standard that we were expecting but were so happy to at last get our camper before the summer ended that I suppose we thought we could live with the small things and repair bits ourselves. When we woke up the next morning there were no electrics. When we drove off the rain water that had gathered on the roof had seeped into the headlining and then poured through the cab lights and directly onto our stereo. When we went around a bend the oven completely slid out and hit the cupboards on the other side (with gas pipes attached). The seating had virtually collapsed because it had been made from off cuts and screwed together badly. The shower room pored water into the living area. There was no flashing on the awning so water dripped directly into living area. The gas pipe was faulty and leaking. No breather pipe on water tank so it would have sucked itself inside out until pump had broke. There were many many more issues of faults, shoddy workmanship and missing items.
We rang Paul who was very sorry and promised to rectify all faults. At the first opportunity (we live a fair distance away from Racepassion and both work full time) we delivered the van back to Paul in mid October 2010.
February 2011 After months of unanswered calls. We went to Race passion and not one thing had been done to our van. I wanted to take it home and recover our losses through the courts but Paul assured us that he would have it all done by the 10th February 2011. We have Pauls hand written letter on headed note paper stating this.
15th April. After many more unanswered calls or promises that he was actually on his way in the van we finally gave up and went to his Unit on Dafen Ind Est and collected our van.
When we arrived Paul was not there. The van had not had any of the faults rectified. In fact the men that were working there did not even know why it was there. To add insult to injury the side door had been left open and all the dust and overspray from them painting other vans had all gone into our van. It was a mess. They had taken from our van to finish other vans 1, our table and table leg. 2, the plug from our TV. 3, The cab window covers. 3, the catch to stow away the extra worktop table. 4, The drivers arm rest.
When we arrived home that same day Paul finally returned our call, we asked "what have you done to our van?" he replied "its all done and im going to deliver it back to you ", he even lied saying he was looking at the finished van when if fact it was on our driveway near Chepstow!
We took the van to another conversion company that are based in Cwmbran. They were brilliant. They fixed all the faults at a cost of £3000. And I know that was cheap because of the man hours that they had to put in. Just removing all the cheap grade silicone from around the windows and shower would have taken hours alone. They rebuilt the seating area, fixed the leaking roof, completely reworked the charging system, fitted the exterior light that was missing. Fixed the gas leak. And a long list of other problems were rectified.
We then went down the legal route and have finally got Judgement for £4527.00
Im just about to fill in the forms for the bailiffs to go in to get my money or goods to be sold to pay me back.
If any of you good people are considering having a motorcross van or camper that has been touched by Paul at Racepassion after you have read my case and that of others that are on this website then you really need your head read or someone else looking after your money.
Paul Lloyd is a consistent and pathological liar. But unluckily for him he does not have the memory to back up his lies.
For all of you that have had a conversion done I would seriously get the electrics and gas checked by an independant specialist. Do not think that the check sheet Paul gave you is correct.
The really annoying thing in all this as with many of the conversions Race passion has done is that he could have done a good job. It would not have taken many more hours to do it correctly. Just pride in your work would have seen this company prosper with a good name. The end product is only as good as the work force doing the job... we never saw the same guy twice on the shop floor. If you have seen a tidy conversion out there by RacePassion then by luck the guy working there for those particular months actually gave a damn about his work.
Im happy to show you my camper, the pictures of all the shoddy work, the letters to Paul. And the COUNTY COURT JUDGEMENT FOR £4527.
Contact me if you want to see it all

I think you can deduce where NOT to take your business ;).

There are plenty of alternative companies available who have a glowing reputation and enough (genuine) feedback to go by.

Think you're right. Not very MSE but based on this I'm tempted to buy new.

John, I have emailed you, please reply, what I have read is very interesting but would rather not discuss it on here at this point!

I thought I had bought a VW T4 conversion but it seems it's all just a horrid nightmare. If I have the strength and ever get my money back I would like to try again, any recommendations on companies to use!
