  • Hi all,

Firstly apologies as I'm new to these forums. I tend not to have time to read and certainly not to reply. But I felt compelled to respond after reading these posts regarding race vans.

OK, I'd like to write a few lines about Race Passion. Look at their website, see the Moto Media conversion? Thats me.

OK, I run an company that provide filming facilities from motorcycles and went to Race Passion in Jan2010 to get a conversion to carry 2 bikes.

OK, I supplied the donor vehicle and it had seen better days. It had 140k miles on the clock and the bodywork has seen 5 years worth of road salt/muck etc. Anyone wanting a mint vehicle should go to their local dealer and buy one new!

Paul came to our house, went through the work that was required, the costs, the timings and we agreed a date. Paul drove the vehicle to his workshop and it was completed some time later.

In all honesty, I was over the moon with the finished ariticle.
The vehicle was ready slightly later than planned but that was due to me making some last minute changes.

I dont wish to get dragged in to character assessments or any of that - especially in such an open forum. Paul seemed like a genuinelly decent chap and I have caused a little bit of damage to the rear of the garage area of the van whilst moving motorcycles around and he has always been more than happy to repair it foc, or supply small spare parts for me to repair.

I plan on getting another van early next year and I will probably go to Paul again. There are several suppliers out there (just Google them - I did!). On balance - RacePassion did everything we wanted. We were delighted with the finish - and the price.

Regarding the comments from lmorton - I can only sympathise. I too looked for a decent low mileage van for around the £3000 mark - apart from the ex-Royal Mail ones, theres not much about! I've now learned that to get a decent van, you need to spend a little more.

    Thanks for reading.

    Hi Jason
I'm just wondering do you have a gas saftey certificate for your van or an actual conversion to campervan certificate for your van? I'm still waiting on mine, collected 9th April (4 months ago)
Reason i mention it is your insurance is not valid without it, its still a van.

Also i'm still waiting on paperwork from D.V.L.A fortunately you had your own van.

Thank you for your comments on how much i should spend to get a decent van but if you read through all my posts you will see there are as many problems with the interior workmanship of this van as there are of the van itself.

Can you (as a business man) think of any reason Paul would refuse to give me my money back or pay for the faults to be rectified?

Obviously does not care about his customers or reputation?

As i have said many times before Trading standards have advised me to speak to Paul only formally so i will not be responding to his post here. I have taken a screenshot of the above post and emailed it to my Trading standards officer who is in regular contact with Paul's local trading standards dept, both dept's will find it quite interesting given the information they already have.

I think Trumpton put it perfectly when he said - If you are confident about the quality of your work on this vehicle surely you can give them a refund and then sell it yourself if it is so good?

I will of course keep all forum members posted on any developments.

I did put a spoof client on another website only to show how easy it was to post fictional facts as we have found out that many posts from supposed to be disatisfied customers were actually our competitor and one other person pretending to be many!!!

I do hope you all can see that we are happy to rectify any faults with this van, something that we have been trying to do from the start!!! Mrs Morton has not responded to any comunication with ourselves to allow this to happen, that is why we will continue to defend ourselves.

    Regards,

    Paul
In all fairness, you have undermined your position by acting as a satisfied customer to undermine a dissatisfied, (whether or not they were spoof), fighting fire with fire just makes for a bigger fire (substitute fire with liar and you get the idea).

To be fair to you I have not seen many complaints online about your company, however I imagine your determination to rectify Mrs Mortons problem, serves to your credit.

I am sure Mrs Morton will be happy to post on here if and when this matter is resolved, to further add credit to your post.

Mrs Morton may reply that no such letter has been received, or that she has received this letter but chose not to bother, which could well serve to add doubts or suspicions to your post, one way or the other.

But be aware that mud sticks, if you go around "pretending" to be satisfied customers (regardless of whether you think messages are spoofs), people will be less likely to trust anything else you have to say.

Marleyboy - I can confirm i have NEVER recieved anything in the post from Race Passion EVER.

It is of course possible that this letter posted on the mse forum will arrive on Monday (if its just been sent) in which case i will confirm its arrival but to suggest letters have been sent on numerous occasions is a lie. Trading standards always insist on communication via recorded delivery so there would be proof of postage right?

Perhaps now legal action is knocking on Race Passions door the problem will finally be rectified?

    Let's all hope so.

I can't be bothered to find the actual bit in the legislation, but they are easily available online.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

Just to clarify matters for forum members

On the 14th of June i moved house (please see post 33 on this thread) My IP provider was cancelled at the old address on 11/7/10. Trading standards were made aware of my new email address when i got back online on the 26/7/10 again as stated in post 33. Any emails sent by anyone after 11/7/10 will be lost in cyberspace.
Naturally i have evidence of all cancellations from B.T who were my provider.

Race Passion have been asked to communicate with me through Trading standards who have been dealing with the case since MARCH.

Had Race Passion been keen to get a hold of me they could have contacted my Trading standards officer or written to me, which they have been asked to do, my daughter lives in the old house so there is no doubt i would have recieved it.
If they have written to me several times as stated by them where are the letters?

Every email that has ever been sent by myself or Race Passion is with Trading standards who have not found anything Race Passion have suggested to me so far to be acceptable hence why the case is now going to court.

I have already emailed my Trading standards officer a link to this thread and will be discussing it with him on Monday.

Imorton & Race Passions, its clear that there is a "lack" of communication between you both, however assuming these emails did or did not get sent, or they have not been read.

As you are both now in direct communication with each other on this very thread, I suggest Imorton you ask for a resolution to the problems you have had on this thread, and Race Passions, you can post on here what you intend to do to resolve this matter, this in itself can "publicly" show if and when the matter will be resolved and hopefully both satisfy Imorton, whilst Race Passions can "publicly" clear his reputation.

I wish you both a satisfactory resolve to this matter.

  • I have been following this thread with a great deal of interest, as well the other forums. I am looking to commission a company to build me a bespoke motorhome. The intention is for it to be a 'multi purpose' camper, for us to spend weekends in with our 5 year old daughter, also to transport our two Deerhounds to various dog shows nationwide and occasionally for my own use when kayaking at weekends. Race Passions vans certainly look as though they fit the bill, for both price and build quallity! That said, I spent well over half an hour talking to Paul this morning over the phone, after reading some of the bad press which is being levelled at him and his company, to basically 'sound him out'. I can honestly say that I found him to be very informative and helpfull, to the extent that I will be contacting him again in a couple of weeks to make arrangments to travel down to see for myself his setup and inspect a van which he is currently converting. At this stage I have no reason, other than the posts of one disgruntled customer, to doubt his integrity or that of his buisness!

I anticipate a certain degree of back lash from this post so before it is suggested, I have no connection whatsoever with Paul or indeed Race Passions other than being a potential customer. I am fully aware of the reasons for this thread and equally aware of how manipulative certain forums and there members can be (I am moderator on two forums). I shall reserve full judgement after I have met Paul in person. If I feel confident enough that he is the man for the job then I will gladly pass him my business regardless of this or any other thread.

There is an old saying which I was taught many years ago when in sales, 'if you do a good job then your customer may tell 3 or 4 people...but if you do a bad job then the whole world will find out!!' This certainly appears to be the case with Paul.

To this end, I am more than happy to give Race Passion the opportunity to discuss and quote for the building of my new motor home. I have a budget in mind but I am under no illusion that you get what you pay for, certainly when it comes to used commercial vans (believe me I have bought many a 'good looking shed' in my time) so I would sooner hold out for the right van than take my chance on a fairly new van with an old van price tag!

I wish both Paul and Liz the best of luck in reaching a suitable outcome, and I look forward to meeting with Paul in the near future.

To be fair to Race Passions, I have not seen many complaints about his company (1 or 2 but just the norm), whether or not he is dodgy I really cannot say, but he does seem to be trying to be genuine. Apart from his mistake of pretending to be a satisfied customer, as mud sticks.

I suggested Imorton n Race passions tried to resolve their disputes on here, so as to come to some conclusion, as this being on a public forum, there would have been no way either could proclaim not to have read any suggestions or solutions.

I am sure if Imorton were to do this, there could be no claim that either did not receive any assistance from the other, as both parties are conversing on this very thread.

Alas so far, Imorton has still not made any requests on here for Race Passions to respond to, had this been the case and Race Passions simply did not offer any resolution, only then would I think there was something dodgy about his company.

I therefore cannot accuse Race Passions of offering no resolutions when the complainant has so far, not asked him on here to resolve the issue.

I can only guess that Imorton is no longer interested, but I feel I cannot blame Race Passions for this, the only fault I find with him, is in his posing as a happy customer.

I am guessing that this company is a very small company, with staff of no more than a few, I cannot fault anyone going into business for themselves, and would expect one or two "hiccups" to occur along the way. But as long as he is prepared to resolve any issues with his customers, and not blatantly go around ripping people off, all the more credit to his company.

I am in no way backing Race Passions up, or taking anybodies side over it, I am simply observing an issue from an unsatisfied customer who has a direct communication with the company on here

I really dont think Jimmy M is a plant, however I would be interested to know how his custom goes with Race Passions, I pray all goes well.

Until we know anymore about Imortons case. in that how it gets resolved, all we have really is his stupidity in creating a false post, of which he has admitted and hopefully learned a valuable lesson.

I cannot call his company "dodgy" based only on an unsatisfied customer, and I really hope either Race Passions "publicly" offers a solution to Imorton, or Imorton "publicly" accepts or rejects the offer.

This will go a long way into either clearing Race Passions of being dodgy, or Imorton of ignoring any offers. Until we know either way and for sure, we are not in a position to accuse either of anything.

I really hope Imorton and Race Passions take up on this offer and both come to an amicable solution.
