They told me to make sure I paid my mortgage and offer £1 month for my loans & other debts until I got sorted out somehow. I'm going to CAB tomorrow to see if they can help. Hubby has applied for lots of jobs but we haven't heard anything. I want to open a new bank account and have my tax credits paid into the new one but I have £1000 overdraft with LTB and I'm not sure what to do about it.
    Thanks for the reply

Hello sorry I haven't been back. I've made myself ill. I have cancelled my DD to Northern rock today and cannot pay my credit card bill this month. I've spoken to cccs but I'm worrying about going over my overdraft. I'm trying to make sure I'm ok for next mortgage payment.

Did CCCS say about opening another bank account away from any linked to your debt? If you owe money to bank on loan or credit card, they can take money from any account you hold with them to pay it. So, unless you don't have any debt linked to your current bank, you should open a BASIC bank account somewhere that is not linked to your creditors. Co-op Cashminder account is highly recommended or try Nat West Step account (Nat West is linked to RBoS) - make sure that you ask for the BASIC account though.

Once the account is opened, transfer your Direct Debits for mortgage, council tax, utilities and have your wages paid into this ac!!!!. This assures that you have the money available for your priority debts.

Look - the main thing to remember is that NO problem is too big to get sorted. Ever. Especially when it comes to debt.

This is not worth getting ill over.

I wouldn't go and talk to Lloyds. All Lloyds care about are Lloyds. They will not be interested in anything but how to secure as much money out of you as possible and will try and tie you down to a high interest locked down long-term loan.

What you need to do is list everything you owe and where you are with it. Include all your incomings and bills as well.

If you are not going to pay Northern Rock this month, then fine, write to them and tell them so and send them a cheque for a token payment. Tell them you are seeking help from CCCS and will let them know what is happening as soon as you can.

Call CCCS again and go through your options.

Once you have opened your new BASIC account, transferred the priority DD's, arranged payments into this account and, of course, canceledl all DD's in old acount - you can then write to old bank to try to come to an arrangement to pay off the overdraft.

I agree with mrcow - make sure you write EVERYTHING down, income, expenditure, debts with APR's, balance, etc and keep a spending diary to see where you money is going - it is surprising how much money is frittered away every week on 'nothing' - you will soon learn to be more aware of what you spend

An SOA (Statement of Affairs) is the best way of collating everything - do it on http://www.makesenseofcars.com/soacalc.html and then post it on here so you and the people on here can see the exact situation and will be in a better position to help you

Al the best - must go to bed soon but will check back tomorrow

Thankyou so much. I will go and open an account at Nat west tomorrow and start to ring people to transfer my payments etc. Because my hours have been reduced at work and my wages have dropped should I try and get help with my mortgage? My mortgage is with C&G and they are in with this scheme ooops I can't post a link

I was going to change my car insurance as they are charging me £40 per month. I've got full no claims and no points am in my 40's too so don't know why it's so much. I can't change it yet though as someone ran into us last week and the insurance are sorting it out

I don't know much about that scheme but I will check it out tomorrow - I know of one where they take on the selling of your house without any outlay or costs to you but I guess you don't want to sell your home do you?

Anyway, what you need now is some sleep - you have access to the best help available on this thread - just knowing that you are not alone is a big thing

Get to bed now and leave the next step till tomorrow - the debt is not going anywhere overnight so ignore it for now 0002020B.gif
