Hello, I haven't opened a bank account yet, I'm juggling at the moment and burying my head in the sand. I've promised myself I will go and open a basic account at the Nat west tomorrow. I got a text message today from Northern Rock telling me my payment was due. I'd cancelled the direct debit. Can anyone point me in the direction of any template letters offering a reduced payment to my loan companies please? Also I have one loan and a credit card with Lloyds, because I bank online it won't let me cancel any dd's to pay them. How do I get around this and when I move accounts and have my money paid into those will Lloyds keep adding charges onto my unpaid overdraft? Would I be better going to CAB tomorrow too?
Thanks in advance, This is making me quite ill and my mum has had to buy my food for the last 2 weeks

Another thing I have remembered is that when I took out my loan back in 2004 with Northern Rock I could have sworn I borrowed £10,000 over 10 years with an interest rate of 5.49 %. I never got any statements just continued to pay my monthly payment. Since 2007 I have recieved an annual statement and it says I borrowed £12,000 over 10 years with an APR of 7.4%. Can they change the interest rate half way through once it's been agreed to? I can't find my copy of the loan agreement, in fact I can't remember getting one. I signed the agreement and posted it back to them. I'm so confused I think I'm tying myself in knots.

I'm crying now, I've just done a SOA and haven't got enough coming in to cover everything. My mental state is terrible and I've got to the stage where I'm not sleeping or eating
Where do I go from here? Should I try and sell the house or hope we get a better income sorted out? We are trying

You need to speak to CCCS or Payplan or Citizens Advice this morning. Ring them as soon as you can. They will provide you help and advice (CCCS have been ace for me).

Try and sort out you new bank account today as well. I went with Nationwide, but Coop are good for a basic bank account I believe.

Once you start sorting this out (but you have to start) it is a massive weight off your shoulders, and I know you probably don't feel like there is any way out at the moment, but it can be sorted. Trust me.

When I open my new bank account how do I make lloyds cancel my direct debits to them? They won't let me do it on line and how do I sort out my overdraft?
    Thank you for your help

Take a nice deep breath and get a cup of tea! If you post you SOA on here people will be able to make some suggestions as to how you can move forward. It can seem overwhelming at first but you have taken the largest step by admitting there is a problem. Consider making an appointment to see your GP as your health aalos appears to be suffering and many illness are exacerbated by stresses such as debt, your GP can tap into many resources, such as councelling etc but some of them have waiting lists, so the sooner you get your name on the list, the sooner you would be seen, so to speak. Sort out your basic bank account today, that way you can ensure your mortgage and priority bills are paid, post back as often as you need. As Martin says, there is no problem which can't be solved! Take care

Thank you for your help. Do I just move the DD over for my mortgage and cancel the one I have now. I'm worrying they won't let me cancel it.

    First things first.

    Phone CCCS/Payplan/CAB

Open your bank account, get your priority DDs moved over.

I know your heads spinning with "what ifs" but you have to make a start and you will feel a bit better by doing these two things.

Then you can start sorting out your letters to Lloyds or whoever. Token payments or reduced payments.

See what the Debt Management people say. They are good.
