:eek: that sounds extremely scary. My hours have dropped and if they drop any more I would have to claim income support

Hubby was made redundant a few months ago, couldn't claim redundancy because was classed a s self employed. I am only working 16 a week but I am also classed as self employed and only earn comission so my wage alters every week

Well there's the majority of the problem. You both need to be looking for full time+ work as a priority. 1, 2 or 3 jobs if necessary. Take whatever you can get. In the very least there is casual work about if you're prepared to work and put in the hours.

Make that another priority. Increasing income is paramount.

Working 16 hours a week commission only isn't going to crack it is it (sorry if that sounds harsh, but it's reality - you can't fund a household on so little work/money).

I have a loan, cc and had my current account with one bank. I did cancel the DD but they took the money anyway however once CCCS got involved, they started to play ball and realised how bad the situation was. I've had no issues with them as yet (although it is early days). In fact, once I quoted the CCCS ref, they were more than helpful.

Gilgrissom - you might be able to just pay interest only on your mortgage for a while, but obviously that depends on your lender being willing to let you do that. Persevere with the SOA and we will see what your baseline is and where you can tweak the budget a little.

Incidentally, if you are awake at nights and need some bedtime reading, look at some of the diaries in the DebtFreeDiaries section. There are some horrendous debt stories there, which may make yours seem like small beer in comparison, but the people concerned are working their way through their debt situations and having a life as well. You too can do that, if you work at it, and people on this site can help with advice and encouragement.

    Gil - Hi.
You really need to get that new bank aco!!!! opened as soon as possible. This is because if you are still using your Lloyds account and can't pay the loan then they may take your money to pay your loan and not leave you any - this is why you need a new bank account ASAP. It is vital you do this.
The other thing is you have mentioned that you need to pay the credit card off at the moment - this is wrong - you need to ensure you are paying the mortgage, electric/gas and food etc.
Anything left can go to the creditors but do not leave yourself short in order to pay your unsecured (unimportant at the moment) creditors. The creditors will continue to push if you give into them - your health and the roof over your head comes first. Please believe me on this one.
You do need to follow the good advice on this thread andthe step by step instructions you have been given.
