Car failed it's MOT on leaky brake pipe...but current MOT valid until 15th May??!

That's not entirely true. The original MOT is still valid until the date displayed, however if you're pulled over driving a car in an unroadworthy state, whether it has 12 months MOT left, or a weeks MOT left, you can be charged for driving an unroadworthy car. As the OP would now be knowingly driving an unroadworthy car there's no excuses either.chelleybelley wrote: »yes as ur now failed mot replaces the other one
A leaky brake pipe won't cost much to replace though anyway.0 -
Hi anewman....they're replacing the metal pipe & flexible bit (?!) & also getting some more cable to fix handbrake as that only works on one side of car. £145 including mot fee....which i thought was not too bad.....obviously with the time against me i wanted it done asap. From what I can remember about other brakey bits being fitted a few years back its not a bad price??0

Doesn't sound a bad price if includes everything. I would personally replace both handbrake cables as the other side is likely to be quite stretched and possibly more prone to snap, but all that it needs to pass the MOT is the one side.
The other thing I would do is either use an original steel pipe from a dealers or have the pipe made up out of cunifer. Most garages will just use copper pipe as it's cheap and easy to work with, but it's also more fragile and prone to corrosion and I believe copper brake pipes are illegal in other countries, but legal here for some reason.0 -
Can you let me know where you might be doing this driving that's so "urgent" you'll risk not only your, but other people's lives? Just so I can make sure I avoid the area for a few days till you get the car fixed.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

Wonder if your "police mate" considers it more in the public interest to allow a vehicle with defective brakes to be on the road ? public interest or bad press does not count a jot and would not be considered in a road safety issue? wonderful these police mates, possibly a Special or PCSO

I'm fine thanks. I just wonder what would be so urgent that you couldn't call a cab rather than take a risk.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0 -
