Let's face it, the Lib Dems are doing what they do at a council level...prop up the Tories.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -
........ Oh dear.
You really have been "got at" haven'tyou?
Oh obviously, I cannot think for myself."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."

At local level the Tories prop us up as well.
We work with Labour, the Tories and other parties (not the BNP) at a local level.
Lib Dems work in the interests of the people."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."

The LibDems MUST have PR. Without it the party is going to fade - no big gains after this much publicity makes it almost impossible that they can do so in future under FPTP. Cameron can't offer PR. Labour can, but dare Clegg take it? A broad left loose coalition could ramrod PR past a minority Tory government anyway, they'd have enough votes.
Brown may well resign.
You assume that Labour MP's will slavishly vote for PR when the party is split on it. The manifesto pledge was on a referendum on AV. That is not what Brown is holding out now.
That we did badly at this election is not in doubt. However the Lib Dems are not votes for hire to either party."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."

As I said elsewhere, vote Clegg, get Brown (temporarily), then Millband. A LibLab deal has zero legitimacy in the country and will collapse within 12 months as the IMF is called in. 2nd General election and the Tories romp home
Yep, Clegg flip-flopping to prop up the lame-duck Clown will be ideal!0 -
Dangerous times for the politico's - if they can't sort a majority government of whatever colours given the current "freebie" PR-sorta-thing situation, will the electorate think:
a) oh, what the heck we'll just just have elections every other week until we get a result
b) sick of this, who's the nearest anti-PR party
c) sick ot this, who's the nearest pro-PR party
Or will the LibDems go for the "I've always wanted PR honest guv" NuLab line, get it sorted as a priority then switch sides (having learned from the 1997 vice versa)..?0 -
have several friends who are concerned about a possible lib con coalition as they voted lib dem on the basis of left of centre policies. they called party head office and were told although talks are underway they won't agree to a coalition unless the four points of their mandate are met. i don't know what they are though.
electoral reform and a re-election hopefully. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
four points of their mandate
- Fair taxes that put money back in your pocket.
- A fair chance for every child.
- A fair future, creating jobs by making Britain greener.
- A fair deal for you from politicians.

Are the public really that bothered about a new voting system? One survey I read suggested that 74% thought it was one of the less important issues and more people wanted kept it as it was rather than have it changed changed. If Clegg sticks to his words that his party will do whats in the best interest of the country he will put his dreams of a new voting system on hold. The fact that the Lib Dems only increased their vote by about 1% seems to confirm that the public are not that bothered about cleaning up politics.
The markets showed yesterday what they thought of a Lib/Lab pact when GB came out saying he was looking to form a government with the Lib Dems. Therefore Clegg will have difficulty saying that going with Labour was in the national interest especially when in a few months the public find out that Brown was economical with the truth over the cuts there will have to be.0
