Just heard Clegg saying Tories got most seats / votes therefore they should have chance to form government. He could have played it the 'Mandelson' way but he didn't. I am impressed by his integrity.
He said this before the election, doesn't mean the Tories will be backed by the LibDems, I think his get out is the word CHANCE.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

This is what he has said all along. He stated this before the election and he's stating it after the election. That is what I am talking about.
So tell me, what's going above my head here?
He has stated something, to paraphrase Milliband on TV this morning, Clegg has spoken but we don't know what he said yet.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

I guess this is the problem with being simply honest. The problem with saying something before the election, and then saying the same thing after, even though you have lost pretty bad.
People will always look at what you have NOT said, and try and turn what you DID say into what you DIDN'T say.0 -

Doesn't take long to get there, and still suffering from alcohol poisoning from Wednesday.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. You have to study politicians actual words quite closely, have you not learnt that yet

He is being a politician.
Lib dem central policy means its not up to him, its a party decision. He knows this.
If the Conservatives form a government, I am hoping they are going to stick to their word, instead of getting in the way.0 -

He made a short and sweet speech, full of honesty, after coming crashing down to earth....thinking he was going to get something like 80 seats. Instead, he got even less seats than the last election!
There was nothing in it for himself, or the lib dems today, with what he said.
If Clegg want's power, there is a very easy route right now, of which, that easy route will be practically begging him to come on board. Today, he basically may have cut himself out, saying what he did.
For him to say "no" to that, and to say he sticks by what he says, and in the name of fairness, the party with the most votes should get the first crack, is not doing HIM any favours....apart from showing honesty and integrity.
He's the first leader to come out after the election, and after the pledges, to actually carry on with what he was stating beforehand, even though it may cost him power. It's refreshing.
S0d that Graham.
I didn't vote Tory. They dont have enough seats to form a government, and 2/3 of the electorate doesnt want them to.
Lib Lab coalition all the waaaay!0 -

But by your logic Con Lib coalition is the way forward as that covers more of the %age of voters.
Nearly half did not want Labour and the Lib dem's if you added there results together.:eek:0 -
We'll probably never agree Ruggedtoast....it is just my view and is something that I feel quite strongly about.
Plus the Liberal democrats didn't have a hope in hell of getting in here so would have been a wasted vote.
Edit - Although the Libdems actually overtook Labour to become the second party here....by a huge swing but still a long way short of the Conservatives.
I actually think the Lib Dems should have made a strong commitment to an actual independent, British deterrent.
We dont need nuclear subs driving around on a patrol thats been dictated by Washington, carrying hardware that is made and maintained in America. That cant realistically be used unless the Americans agree. Despite occasionally crashing into the French.
The same amount of money could be spent on a smaller, British ICBM programme, then all the investment, R & D and jobs would benefit British citizens, rather than American ones, at no risk to our "safety".
Trident has a lot to do with appeasing America and pretending we have a nuclear deterrent we neither have the money or expertise to actually run ourselves.0
