I have had good deals from ntl before - currently on broadband at £9.99 per month since last October, when they were offering that deal to new customers. I rang and said I was considering leaving as I was unhappy that they weren't offering any incentive to existing customers.

I have previously had reductions in tv package as well. However, I have found that when the reduction has finished, if I ring back to try and get more discounts, they won't always give it - and I am as nice as I always am!! Just one to watch out for - but maybe they are finally discovering what they need to do to retain customers. We were actually without digital tv for a few months (I know, just 5 channels  ) as they wouldn't give me a good deal. (Did go out and buy freeview in the end, then ended up going back to ntl).

However, there is now much more competition out there, and I suppose if they can tie you in with a good tv package deal, then you will keep on using their broadband/phone... definitely worth a phone call - will have to try them tomorrow!!

    Thanks OP

Yippee, I just rang NTL, explained that I needed to reduce my bill and was thinking of looking at SKY and they reduced my bill by half!!!! Thank you very much.
  • Thanks, Fait accompli. I rang NTL today, spoke to a guy called Sean who at first didn't know the deal was on. Said I'd checked the ntl site - so did he. Sorted it out and also upgraded my phone to free weekend calls. He said its a good idea to keep checking their deals every now & again. All this within minutes- their customer service seems to have improved drastically.
  • I managed to get a discount out of NTL a couple of months ago. Upgraded to digital basic TV package, and 1MB broadband, with telephone line for £15 for first 3 months, £30 thereafter.

My first changed bill came through with an astronomical charge on it so I wrote to them. It's taken them weeks to reply, but I have eventually received a letter this morning saying I have a refund. I'm now just waiting for the next bill to see if I have to go through it all again!

    Hi Guys
Just made the phone call to NTL. Told them that I was being bombarded with offers from other providers that could save me pounds so I was going to cancel my package. With no effort at all on my part they have cut my bill by £17 per month for 6 months. Definitely worth the cost of a phone call. Great Thread.
£2 coins saved so far 0. really hope I get 1 tomorrow

I am really pleased with NTL, we have always had broadband & phone, approx£40 per month for both, spoke to a very nice man who has upgraded us to 2MD broadband, free weekend calls & phone rental, family TV package, sky sports & Multiroom for £45 all in:D We have been paying Sky £55 for our tv package, so a monthly saving of £50.

Thanks so much for this thread. It spurred me into calling NTL which I have been meaning to do for some time.

Our Family Package was at £8 a month and I got it reduced to £4 for 6 months.

We had the superfast 10mb Broadband which I said I wanted to reduce to save some money. I opted to go down to 1mb (as the kids don't download as much as they used to) which would have been £17.99. The lady then looked to see if a discount was available and applied a reduction for 6 months which brought the cost down to £9.99 a month. Incidentally the 1mb service is being automatically upgraded to 2mb area by area at the moment. So will soon be on 2mb anyway.

When I enquired about the telephone package this was updated to a new package called Talk Weekends which gives free phone calls to landlines in the UK on Saturdays and Sundays. This is apparently being upgraded as customers call in (it is not automatic)

So, I can say I am a happy bunny as I've just reduced my monthly bill by £29 and got free weekend calls!

NtL manage to make there bills so confusing that you give up in the end! Plus they now charge you to phone them, it used to be free.
