    Hi

I'm not saying you're wrong but how do you explain the hundreds of people that took up the offer a month or two back which involved them cancelling and signing back up within days ? All they did was use a partners name and from what I've read, not one of them got turned down. The hotukdeals thread (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/665207/new-skyhd-deals-for-existing-sky-cu) clearly show's lots of examples of ppl cancelling and signing straight back up, most within 24 hours.

Reading some of the pages on that thread, they were threatening to cancel, not actually cancelled.
The are times of the year where the business is slack, like Jan/Feb & Sept when people are skint (I have seen this first hand as an engineer when the work tails off during these periods) so in order to attract people, they will offer 'incentives' to customers & ex-customers.
Once, when I owed Sky around £40 & they cut me off,I got pestered with letters offering to write off half the debt to a value of £100 if I came back.
Sky have a back office who check over sign ups & returning customers. As to those that sign up in a different name,a lot of sales people will let it go thru in order to meet their targets & get their bonus. That where the back office come in,they're meant to check for things like that.

That thread was about an offer only for new customers, those that threatend to leave were people that were too scared to go through with it and trying to get a deal. My point was that there were alot of people that did leave and signed straight back up with their partners details and haven't had a problem, showing that it is infact possible

I cancelled because I had to. I was called less than 2 weeks after I cancelled and offered a deal.

I was very tempted especially as I was told I would still be out of contract and could cancel again at any time. DH was very excited when I told him...he thought he was gonna get sky sports back.......

But we stood our ground and did not take the offer...we really can't afford it even at half price.

I miss the pause/rewind/record and the kids are missing disney (I'm NOT), but I feel quite liberated that I can't just sit there and watch cr*p when there is nowt else on. And if you did a tv audit over a week/month I bet you are mainly watching the free channels anyway?

Just to say thou...if our finances improve and we are offered a deal, I would take it...well its a treat..right?

You don't need a Sky sub to get pause/rewind/record. Just get yourself a Freesat PVR (Humax Foxsat HDR) box and those facilities are free for ever, along with the HD channels.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I lived with my Nan up until October last year, she'd had Sky on and off for years. I looked after the account, had the full package for a while then dropped it down taking off the movies.

Anyway when I moved out in October I cancelled it for her, a couple of weeks later she got a leaflet through the post offering her half price for a year - on any package!

Hi, I cancelled Sky in March, I didn't receive any phone call from Sky and the subscription finished 5th April.

I still have the Sky+ box, quad Lnb and dish with cabling leading to the Sky box which is obviously now defunct

Can someone give me advice on this Humax HD PVD with 320gb, is it simply, take the two cables out the rear of the Sky box and connect this to the Humax and retune? or do I need to get the dish realigned etc,

I will then have the Sky + box, can I simply run a cable into the bedroom and connect this up? or do I need two cables, I know the record facility etc won't work, so therefore can I get away with a single cable from the LNB to the Sky box, I was then hoping to use the spare output from the LNB to another type of box in the kitchen, or can I use some other way of getting TV into the kitchen using either the Humax or the Sky box?

    Thanks HC

No, the Foxsat HDR is a straight swap, same cables, dish position etc.
But much cheaper at Richer Sounds:

Six month's or one year (used to be the year, think it's now the six months) before you can sign up again after cancelling.
Stops people doing what you're suggesting.
An address check on their SMS will tell them who had what & when,so you cant sign back up in another slightly different name either.

So does this mean if my husband cancels his sky contract and I take one out in my account they can decline it for 6 months? We were planning to do this as we tried getting a deal out of them last night and couldn't so we went ahead with the cancellation. Is there a good chance of them calling with an offer? How far into the 30 day cancellation period can you change your mind about the cancellation?
