Cancelling sky, then going back to them?

Hi
We've been with Sky for decades (since they were first around really) and have never had these offers that others seem to get. We now pay £58.50 a month. A colleague at work said he phoned to cancel and got 6 months half price, so I tried it last night as was offered nothing (they said if I wanted to save money I could drop some channels and save £1 a month:rotfl:
Has anyone ever actually gone ahead and cancelled and then have sky phone them up with an offer in the 31 day notice period? Or could I cancel Sky and if I'm not offerered anything just phone them up in 30 days and have it switched back on again?
I did look into the Virgin package, but we do really like all the Sky HD channels.

Six month's or one year (used to be the year, think it's now the six months) before you can sign up again after cancelling.
Stops people doing what you're suggesting.
An address check on their SMS will tell them who had what & when,so you cant sign back up in another slightly different name either.

If you only called them last night then theres still plenty of time for them to call you back. Have done it a few times now, and within a couple of days of informing them i want to cancel, someone calls me back to ask why. Just tell them you cant afford it at the moment and have seen better offers elsewhere. They will then hopefully give you an offer that you cant refuse :-)

Thanks bossymummy, but that's almost exactly the conversation I had with them last night; couldn't afford it, etc,. I didn't actually go ahead with the cancellation though.

Do they really make you wait six months to sign up again if you cancel?

    I've been Money Tipped!
I was in the same boat a few months back. Rang up hoping to get an offer that new customers get was offered nothing. So i cancelled. They made no attempt to keep me - no phone calls nothing!!!

Been a few months without it have to say not really missing it. I wouldn't be able to live without sky+ facility so bought a hd recorder box almost the same as sky+ for the same price as a few months sky subscription.

To be honest if they'd rung back with an offer i probably would have taken it but i'm now £49 a month better off!

Hang in there. Its usually someone from another team that calls you back and gives you the offers. So i would ring them again and cancel, and wait for the cancelation team to ring you back. The people that you first speak to, to cancel, dont seem to have the authorisation to give offers. And if they dont call back then i'm sure you have so many days to change your mind anyway.

As for waiting 6 months to sign up again, i really dont know. I have phoned them probably 5 times since i've been with them (aprox 10 years), and the cancelation has never gone through as they always offered me something

If you move & sign up at a new address, normally you have to go thru housemoves department, but as long as you dont tell them where you're going to when you cancel, then the's no way they can check on Chordiant (their SMS System) when you sign up at the new address, that you cancelled at a previous address.
    Does that make sense?...

    Hi

I'm not saying you're wrong but how do you explain the hundreds of people that took up the offer a month or two back which involved them cancelling and signing back up within days ? All they did was use a partners name and from what I've read, not one of them got turned down. The hotukdeals thread (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/665207/new-skyhd-deals-for-existing-sky-cu) clearly show's lots of examples of ppl cancelling and signing straight back up, most within 24 hours.

Hey sometimes when you ring to cancel they will ring you a few days later asking why when they will offer you a deal.
